One of the reasons. American history classes are a joke. Most everything I know, I've had to look up myself. We learn virtually no foreign history, and a way watered-down/censored version of American history, which tends to focus on the bad parts.
All censoring history does, is make it less intresting. Also, you know its bad, when you find factual inacuracies in your textbook.
