    The band did, that was the name of the track.

    If a fan named it, it would reference the lyrics, like how they call that beach clip song All My Life.

    Bono gave it that name. I don't want it released officially either...leave it as one of the 'gems' of the U2 catalogue. When people discover it, then they will find out for themselves. A lot of albums are still bootlegs and are immensely popular. Would you release Sunset In Colours (the 14-minute jam on the Berlin Bootlegs) as official? I'd hope not.

    When a fan asked him when they'd play Mercy, he was supposedly surprised at how they heard it and didn't even know it had leaked. Now, the funny thing was he actually gave a female fan earlier (I think in the US who uploaded it to Interference pronto) the 12-track HTDAAB advance album with the song on it, presumably track 13 after Fast Cars or 12 after Yahweh. I'd be guessing they were all the finished songs, not Xanax And Wine, Native Son etc.

    Then someone else asked other band members and they just smiled at it. They're probably confused. BTW anyone who gets it in 192Kbps MP3 or as a WAV can call it fake. It was only ripped in WMA 128Kbps - so a poor transcode effort at that.


  3. You're right...strange. Yesterday, it said "File cannot be found". It's working now indeed but at the moment, it's too busy on Rapidshare for non-members. I gotta be patient for another little while.

    Listen to the song and the title makes sense. It is the mercy that real love offers - understanding, grace, compassion and forgiveness. That is the short answer.

    There was an article in Blender that showed a different tracklist to HTDAAB. I will have to find that and post it; I have it at home.

    In the same article it mentioned that Larry thought the album was too long and thought (2) tracks needed to be cut. "Mercy", probably as it was a long tune and "Fast Cars" that ended up on deluxe versions and most country's outside the U.S. anyways.

    Edge said he liked the song and it'd make the best B-side ever, or something to that extent. Yet, it didn't surface on any of the HTDAAB singles.

    I asked Bono about playing it, at Vertigo San Jose shows. He grinned and said, might not get to that one this tour. But I think that they realize it's a song that many like and are interested to see released.

    There was talk of it being re-worked for Songs of Ascent. Time will tell if that happens or not.

  10. It's a shame I never listen to this song because the audio quality is horrible in my opinion. Very uneven in sound levels with a constant hiss or crackling. I think it's an amazing song. Does anyone know if this is the only audio of this or does a better one exist? Perhaps even a fan made remaster of the song?

    The first one was on a lyric site that I first looked at after I heard the song for the first time and could determine what he was saying. The second was from the Deluxe Bomb book. The third, Sergio's interpretation as well as others'. Fourth comes from wherever you copied/pasted those lyrics. (That's all just for source's purpose)

    Any other interps? Haha.

    And that actually slightly gets my hopes up- that comment Edge made about wanting to try the song live but not knowing if they'd do it. It's a long shot in hell, which would probably freeze over if they DID do it, but at least it's been mentioned. Oh well, you never know- I never thought Electrical Storm would see the light of day when it did.
