1. Just browsed a local used record shop...

    Desire [Gatefold Vinyl]
With or Without You [Picture Sleeve 45"]
    One [Cassette]

Dont know how rare the gatefold Desire or the cassette version of the One single are...perhaps someone can help out with that? I know the WOWY picture sleeve is more common.
  2. And how do most people get their CD singles these days? Do independent retailers even carry CD singles? The only indy places around me- most, anyway- are strictly vinyl, and very very very rare copies of older CDs, so newer (meaning 1990+) CD singles are impossible to come by over here. I love the joy of finding something you've been looking for, a hard copy of it, in your hands after seeing so many digital images of it...but unfortunately, I'm usually only reduced to buying online, and that thrill is gone.

So how do you get your CD singles these days?

Then i immediately went out to get BOY and U2-3!
Then concert tix to see them at RAINBOW MUSIC HALL,

PayPal + eBay. Although I understand what you mean about the 'thrill of it all'.

I know, finding singles is nearly impossible but if you take them in decent (with a couple of surface marks) condition, it's all good still and you get some real rarities that way. I picked up the Crazy Tonight remixes single for about $8 and the Miss Sarajevo one with the women carrying the banner on the cover for about $4. I'd love to find some acetates too and test pressings but they come up very rarely if ever. I remember seeing one with ''California'' on it which was one of the titles for Wild Horses and a couple of other edits on that LP record, but it looked dead fake - and no collectors or traders had any idea on it. Needless to say it was taken down soon after I'd seen it with plenty of time to bid. (?)

I badly want the Magnificent 10-remix set but it's far expensive for me (I hate the song as is but love the remixes). Some stores like little independent and second-hand ones carry the older singles up to about 2005, which is where I picked up the CoBL DVD single. Do a quick Google Maps search for 'record stores (where you're near)' and you should get a few results, then give 'em a call. Too easy. In fact, I might go visit tomorrow and see what's new.

As a quick aside, I just bidded on a copy of the Mysterious Ways single with the five remixes for $4 - it hasn't had any bids for the two times it's been put up each time or even for the last 28 days on this current one. Again, I remember also going into the same store I picked up the CoBL DVD single and got the Beautiful Day single too for a bargain $4. The early singles are more expensive mainly because they've been out of print for so long. The easiest one to get is IGWSHA - you can practically find that one in even the biggest chain stores, mainly 'cos it's more of an EP than a true single.

I'm not so much into the one-track radio edits and singles, but if they have good B-sides or even two or three decent remixes I will pick it up, if affordable enough.
  5. My first album was NLOTH,
