1. i think the cover reflects the lack of rock we've been given with the shows ...
in line with the MOS closer ....

I wont mind another zooropa .... I mean, I see it as an essential building block .... they need to do that first, before they can go further .... clean out your closet....
ok, not everyone might like it but hey .... do you care ??
follow you guts ... stop strategising ... otherwise maybe they will do with soa what they do with mos ... not release it at all .....

U2 seems to have gotten lazy with releases in the past few years, so why break with the new trend?

Oh, I don't think they'd do that - they always think of topping JT and AB, not R&H! But who knows... My guess is that, if they have 3 good new songs, they will probably leave them for a proper album.

I also think they'll realize a live dvd, but not a live album - it wouldn't sell much I guess.

I think U2 should have fun and be creative. What is more: 50' of music, that's not enough. I'd love them to realize a double album. The Beatles, the Stones, Pink Floyd etc. did it. I hope U2 can do it too before it's too late; without cheating, i.e. without inserting live songs.

  3. Agree 100%. Lemon is very classy. And I'd really love to hear EBW. I fear it may be disappointing though. If it is such a great song, why was it left out at the last minute, in favor of a weak song such as GOYB? But I'm very curious indeed.

EBW wasn't left out because of a song for better or for worse. It was left out because it would have made the album ''too long'' - that's what Adam says anyway.

How it's been described though gets me excited.

Oh, and yeah - opinions are opinions. Maybe I just got NLOTH easier than I could Viva La Vida, or at least that horrible EP they made afterwards. I think it had three songs on it I could honestly see replay value in and that's it (a bit like ATYCLB). On No Line I can think of six - so it's about even on that level.
  5. No worries, you're entitled to have any opinion you want. Saying that people don't like Boots cause they don't understand it combined with that quote from MJs velvet lollypopworld just left me a little puzzled, that's all.

  6. I disagree, sure the beach clips were not exactly pleasant on the hears, but they weren't barely audible.

And they gave us a clear taste of what 4 songs on the album would sound like (GOYB, Magnificent, Breathe, UC) months before they were released. Much more accurate than all the pre-release hype that was wafting around, definitely a spoiler for the album though (it's a good thing they weren't clearer)

IIRC there were 5 beach clips, what was the other one? the acoustic sounding, campfire tune most people didnt like. (I can't find the clips on my PC). Maybe that's going to be on SOA

Funnily enough I find some people love Boots, normally the ones who don't really like U2, they say it sounds fresh and non-U2ish, lol.

Most U2 fans would disagree though, basically the song is hampered by Bono's ridiculously embarassing lines like 'sexy boots', they should act their age. Oh and the chorus is sort of atonal and not catchy for a pop hit.

I quite like Boots because it isn't typically what U2 would put out as a first single (maybe except Discotheque). But sexy boots - oh god how I cringe.

Maybe I'm deaf. I've been told numerous times I am. Which beach clips we talking about? The 2006 or NLOTH ones?

Velvet Lollypopworld. Now I'm gonna think that every time I listen to something of his. But that quote could apply to many bands who are worried it won't hit number one. U2 needn't ever worry about that...their new albums always get to number one regardless of how good or bad they are. It's just to be expected.

I see what you mean though. Not understanding it isn't what I meant exactly, I mean maybe hearing it once and dismissing it because it sounds like pop rubbish when a song like that needs a couple of listens to sink in. Most people I speak to about it think it's more about succeeding in your goals...not really as I thought it was.

  9. Yea GOYB immediately reminded me of Discotheque, not quite as good though - Discotheque got stuck in ur head, but im pretty sure the 'sexy boots' bit fucked up GOYB, someone (Eno?) should restrain Bono's cringeworthy tendencies in the studio.

I meant the 08 NLOTH beachclips of course, didnt listen to the other ones

Personally, I'd rather listen to VLV straight through over NLOTH. And as far as live performances and atmosphere goes, I'd make the argument that the best part of the Coldplay show (Lovers in Japan) was much more interesting than the best part of the U2 show (Crazy Tonight). Just because the band walks around the catwalk doesn't make for a better moment in the show. Just my thoughts....

    You be the judge:

I guess you'd have to compare with Magnificent, Ultraviolet, perhaps Breathe, The Unforgettable Fire, perhaps MoS. And maybe even Unknown Caller. These for me were the best moments of the U2 shows I attended (Stuck in a moment was also great - very intimate.)
