I don't think it ruins anything about the song. It's what the song is about, and if it's "only ironic for its time" then so be it. You can take me back to 1997 for 4 minutes and I'm not going to complain. It's catchy, to me, well produced, and I really love the mellow flow of the "Then will there be no time for sorrow" parts. Great song, in my opinion. Not the best one they've ever released, and not the best song on Pop, but I love it.

Im not that keen on Stay or The First Time, I like them but not in my top 75
