Written about 2 years ago, this is my "good riddance" song that seems to remain forever relevant to my life. Fun to sing as if you're slugging a pint back and forth
If you dont know the story of Molly Pitcher, she used to bring pitchers of water out to soldiers in (I can't remember which) war, keeping them hydrated and risking her life so that her country could fight on. Urban legend or truth, I don't care, it worked for the song. Wrote it in history class the day we learned the story, no joke. The Ballad of Molly Pitcher
We can’t share the land
On this island of hope
So I’ll hope for me,
But not you
And if you cared at all
About any resolve,
You’d walk on
Which you can’t seem to do
[Chorus]
Well the battles a- ragin’
And I’m getting thirsty for peace
Which may not come soon
Molly, bring me some water
Or I’m going down
And I’ll take you all down with me, too
The soldiers are wounded
But still moving on
Stealing all of the time they can take
While the audience cries out
In pain from their wounds
That they’ve earned due to their own mistakes
They’re choking on answers
In a fight that’s not theirs,
Forgetting what we’re fighting for
If they'd lay down in peace
There would be no battle,
‘Cause there must be two sides to a war
[Chorus]
But the battle roars on,
And I’m thirsty for reason
Though I know I won’t find it with you
Molly, bring me some water
Or I’m going down
And I’ll take you all down with me, too
[Bridge]
You can bring out your fists
As you try to insist
That you’ve got a place on the field
But I’ve got a feeling
The truth will be stealing
Any weapons that you choose to wield.
[start building...]
And as I call for Molly
To bring me some water,
You can scream, you can kick, you can shout
Cause you’re thirsty for blood
But I’m happy to say
That’s not what she’s bringin’ out.
[Chorus]
The battle’s a- ragin’
And I’m thirsty for love
Which is how this whole thing can be won
Molly brought me a drink
And it led me to think
Which is something you just haven’t done
[Outro]
I’ll think about you
When you think about me
And not just mistakes that I’ve made
Maybe hats can be tipped,
Embraces exchanged
When you acknowledge the dues that I’ve paid
So Molly, I’ll wait
And your time, you can take
I’m not through with my water just yet
I’ll sit here and wait
Til you can remember to leave
So we can forget
(hope you're saw my last post on here by the way)
... Makes me wanna pick my acoustic and strum some ol' G, Em and D chords... yeaaaahhh
trust me, I'm trying to write more, I've got 'big ideas' as said by many before me but I generally find my problem to be that I've said all I want to say in a relatively economic space lol - not something I can generally claim to in other walks of life, i.e. I'm usually a waffler.
just random stuff I put together when the chance presents itself, or more precisely, when I get an idea and feel like wasting a bit of time doing something I enjoy
