1. Thanks! I don't play video games (but I love Wii lol) a lot except for at friends' houses, so that didn't click when I was making it. But now that you mention it, I totally agree.

Can't wait to hear what it sounds like with real drums and everything else...you've got real talent, Nick, I wish I could get half of my ideas as polished as you have so far. Major kudos

Also, that's an awesome album cover!

Yeah, when I first heard it, I thought of tribe dancing or something, but then I threw in some more "modern" sounds for the chorus. The synth part reminds me of "Bliss."

I know, me too, it's going to be fantastic! Aww, thanks man. I'm sure that you can do the same, your writing ability appears to be at least equal to mine. Just let it happen.

Thanks! We didn't think of using it as a cover, we just wanted a cool picture for our Facebook page. But thanks!

    Thanks!

  2. Okay, well, I've done some tweaking. I liked it before, but I always thought that it was missing something. I think that the new part really drives the point home.

Universe Surrounded By White Walls (Beautiful Blitzkrieg)

Unsound, beacons raise, to another fight
Reboot, one more is lost, save not a trace
Ample, the justice is, not equal grace

Encore, drag queen slips, between the lights
Color, light pounds, upon the face
Amour, transcending stars, dance in place

    Looking down upon your face
    Letting in the color’s grace
All the castles in the air
In the Universe Surrounded By White Walls
In the Universe Surrounded By White Walls

Nameless, looking for the answer, to what can never, be known
Desperate, reaching out, for what you can, not ever own
Vagrant, for another night, can you be, alone

    Surrender, Surrender

Encore, drag queen slips, between the lights
Color, light pounds, upon the face
Amour, transcending stars, dance in place

    Looking down upon your face
    Letting in the color’s grace
All the castles in the air
In the Universe Surrounded By White Walls
In the Universe Surrounded By White Walls

    Beautiful blitzkrieg, in the air
It shines with the stars, breaks down the walls
    Beautiful blitzkrieg, in the air
You've seen what it brings, you know what it does
    Beautiful blitzkrieg, in the air
It shines with the stars, breaks down the walls

    Looking down upon your face
    Letting in the color’s grace
All the castles in the air

We've also recorded a bit of a demo, but the sound quality is absolutely horrible (and my regular guitar is broken, so I was using my crappy one that sounded kind of out of tune in the very beginning.) Plus, the bass mainly has the harmony and it cannot be heard at all. It's on our YouTube page (http://www.youtube.com/user/ImpetusMusic) if anyone would really like to listen. Our next rehearsal is next weekend, so we're going to re-record it then.

Also, we're starting to work on new Classical pieces as well. The first one is a solo piano piece we've dubbed "Welcome to the Exosphere." (played by Rob)

I get the Muse type vibe aswell, its really good well done

WOW...the theme is very...infectious. It's as if Nine Inch Nails, Coldplay, and Muse collided, and I won't lie, I'd buy the record.

To be perfectly honest- and in your defense I haven't heard the whole song yet, and it's incredibly difficult to judge something without all of the components present; I write too, I get that- the faster parts throw me off. Just when I start to completely lose my head inside the beautiful chord changes and the simple melodies being tossed around so perfectly, it speeds up and you play lightning fast- which is brilliant, don't get me wrong- it just sometimes confuses me. I can't wait to hear everything put together eventually, though, it's gonna be a great one.

I don't by any means mean to push my influence on you, because this is your music, but the first thing I could think of when I heard that was like, it being the first song on an album- a gateway to your sound and spirit of your band- and then the album would close with the instrumental reprise of that very song, just that main slow theme in the beginning of the song, almost as if the album was zooming out, and removing you from the the keyhole through which you viewed the entire thing.

    I'm crazy

I haven't written in so damn long...I've gotta get on that.

    Aw, thanks!

I know what you mean. That faster playing is (was, kind of) the solo part. However, that new blitzkrieg part is what I want to sing over that. I think that the faster playing and everything sort of being dumped on it's head will give it the right feeling of a war; blitzkrieg. Also, as I mentioned before the recording and performance is rubbish. We're going to re-record it from a different point to try to get less of the amp "stuff" next time. I've also changed my amp and delay settings, so it sounds a little different (but it made a big difference). But I've also added this DigiTech wah thing/sound/effect that is quite different to the "solo" part.

Actually, you got the "first song" thing just right... when we put a record together, we want it to be the first song in the track listing. It would be amazing with the drum corps building up and everything. We basically want to start off very quietly, build up a lot of energy until we reach the chorus, when all of it dies down and we continue to die down until it's only the bass drum and vocals. Then, on the "walls" part -- a huge wall of sound comes and knocks you out of your chair. We tried to capture that effect during the recording, but that obviously failed, unfortunately. We also want to add this very Zooropa/ZOO TV-esque background to it (i.e. random "news anchor" voices, random opera voices, a few bombings, bottles breaking every now and then...) But they would be subtle enough to just put you in the mood, but focused on being carried away by the seemingly unfitting guitar chords (without you knowing, or course). It's either brilliant or it won't work and it will sound awful lol.

I just wrote something for my English teacher earlier. The chorus is just the "seven habits of proficient readers" poster in his room lol. I've also been trying to write lyrics for three songs of my own for a while. I have a nice chorus start off for a song called "Cowboy Thing," but I can never seem to get focused enough to do any real writing for it.

    Thanks Andrew!
  6. Okay, I mentioned not being able to write anything seriously for Cowboy Thing in my last post... here it is:

    Cowboy Thing

Can you see the beauty? Can you see how close it is?
Can you see the wonder? Experience the first call

Should we keep questions at bay? Focus on the time change
Could you take a number, please? Admire the lotto

Start moving along the line, runners of the space race
It’s here and it’s never dying, what’s next will never come

I’ve seen the cowboy thing, break them
I’ve seen the suits and chains, deplore them
I’ve known all the lies, distort them
I’ve seen the cowboy thing, change them

Space race continue, please. There’s only one finish line
Cowboys of the new age, please leave with dignity

Explosions put us in place, but what could change a heart?
Red and black of the new minds shine, underneath a cowboy thing

I’ve seen the cowboy thing, break them
I’ve seen the suits and chains, deplore them
I’ve known all the lies, distort them
I’ve seen the cowboy thing, change them

Red and black of the new minds shine, underneath a cowboy thing

*Note: red and black are my school colors... obviously a proud Hilltopper

This is amazing. The non-rhyme of the chorus is a little disorienting. But each individual line is so good in and of itself that I don't really know if it's worth changing. The only thing that even comes to mind would be

I've seen the cowboy thing, break them
I've seen the suits and chains that make them
I've known the lies and truths, rearranged them
I've seen the cowboy thing, change them

But I'm also not sure if this is quite what you're going for

Ahh, thanks! I was just thinking that before coming back on here, and I did a bit of a re-write.

These all look quite ugly on the screen, but I think it will work with the melody, plus the kind of western-y, raging guitar chords.

    Thanks for the input Matt!

Now THAT'S really cool! I really love how the song ends- I know I said that already, but still- with the whole reiteration of the "cowboy thing" to send people off with at the end...just works, you know?
  10. Really interesting seeing what you and your band have come up with lately Nick keep it up! I have nothing to really report, not got 'round to getting much done lately. Still stuck on those two original songs I posted a while back, just been messing around singing and playing whatever takes the fancy of late in between exams and whatnot. I say exams, I only had two, one of which was last week. Ah the student life...

Thanks Matt! Yes, I know exactly what you mean. I was thinking of carrying on the last note, kind of making it as "wow" as possible. I totally just used "wow" as an adjective.

    Aw, thanks Harry!
Ah yes, I recently had to take the MCAS testing (only a state-wide test) in Math, so because of that little two day / six period test I got out of a ton of work. I'm going to miss these excuses.
  12. It's really great to have everyone in the topic help me out with getting another person's opinion on an idea. I like to think that I do a pretty good job of weeding out all of the bad ideas myself, but it's nice to know that I have the forum to fall back upon before expanding on anything. I know that this is usually something to do within the band, but I do all of the composing before we get together for the weekend. I'm sure that you all know that it's harder to let an idea go after you've spent a lot of time on it than it is before you do so.

Thank you for the band support as well, it means so much to me, even though my enthusiasm really can't be heard through the text.
