  1. Hmm on the other hand, i've been thinking about the MacPhisto/The Fly thing and...
    In the late 80ies, everyone also thought U2 (so Bono too) was a very serious band.
    And then they came up with ZooTV Many people said it was ridiculous that day, but think it was the period afterwards... So maybe a one time return to this could be great...?
    Or another kind of alter-ego or 'crazy period'...
  2. How good would it be if Mr MacPhisto came on and started singing Ultraviolet, then Lemon?? I don't think the crowd would know what to do

    I believe that they will play in the daylight, so Ultraviolet wouldn't work at all...

    yeah but bono has taken his extra curricular activties to a whole new level in the 00's - in the 80's he was sincere but mainly only on stage with the band.. -in a band context... - not anywhere and everywhere else in the universe, appearing with presidents, prime ministers, bill gates and everyone else in between! oh and in the 80's he didn't wear those f*cking stupid sunglasses EVERYWHERE he went either!

    and i dont think he would be able to suddenly burn down his righteous image like he did in the 90's anyway! he's put far too much into all these important causes to be able to suddenly appear as a shallow rock star like he did in 1992! and only serious long time U2 fans would understand.

    he's taken it too far to go back now. he should've just stayed as a rock star with a good heart who supported good causes like he did in the 80's and 90's then he'd still be able to do massive U-turns like he did in the 90s....

    i can totally understand why so many people hate him these days - if i'd never really heard of U2 before the ATYCLB album and didnt know anything about bono's history and then constantly saw this man in rubbish sunglasses popping up everywhere preaching about things that in my opinion a musician should keep to a minimum or keep out of altogether, i'd probably find myself hating him too! as i've been a U2 fan for over 20 years he only seriously irritates me rather than causes me to hate!

    And with the tour probably topping the top highest grossing tours ever at the end of this year it seems to be working

  8. I just noticed on the Glasto-website that Willie Nelson is also on the Pyramid Stage on Friday.... My bet would be that 'Slow Dancing' is in U2's setlist (as a duet)...

    The last week I have been waking up with the war album ... on vinyl ... how nice that the one side finishes with drowning man ... and has this rebellious like a song and new years day to lift up your soul ...
    they have to play like a song .... full on .... and surrender .. and gloria ...

  11. do you think this will still go ahead now?!

    as i don't know the exact nature of bono's back problems at this moment it's hard to make a guess but if its not TOO serious i could still see this going ahead... i wonder if theres any chance that with the cancellation/postponement of an indefinate (at this time) amount of 360 gigs, glastonbury might turn out to be their return to the live stage in 2010? would make it twice as epic if it was but on the other hand they probably wouldn't want to go into one of their biggest most important gigs ever, having not had any chance to 'warm up' on their own stage first...

    this could be very tight....
  12. i'll be devastated if they don't play, given they're obviously set to be my highlight for the weekend.

    but then again, it's not the sort of thing you can blame them for if they do end up cancelling.
