I think "Walk On" was a clear inspiration on the Elevation Tour, once 9/11 had happened and people began using the song as an anthem of hope and survival throughout America, and in turn, the rest of the world as they supported us through that tragic time...it was almost like the sigh of relief and the release of all emotions- joy and tears- at the end of a U2 show...and now, it's like..."Whoa...you're really tackling THAT one again?"

Sort of like how Elton John "retired" 'Candle in the Wind', saying he'd never play it again because he didn't want it to lose its meaning (I dont follow EJ's setlists enough to know whether he held true to this or not)...it just seems like maybe that's something U2 should have done with that song.

Walk On was amazing on Elevation and the displays on the screens really worked well. After that though....

On Candle In The Wind, EJ won't play the specific version of CITW he played at Diana's funeral because he felt that it was too sentimental to have those changed lyrics, only he'll play the regular CITW version and only if the family asks for it again.

Thanks for clearing that up for me; I wasn't too sure about the specifics, but I knew I had heard that somewhere.

  3. No problem. About setlists this year, a nicer reworked version of Bullet would be great. I still don't understand why that's not part of the set.

Agree about the Elevation Tour, but I believe that if they "reworked" this song on their shows, that great energy and feeling could be back again since this song is a great song in my opinion. Maybe they should keep it as a finisher, or they should try to play it in a "basic" mode, just like in Elevation Tour, without thet mask stuff and the Bono speeches in the middle of the songs; or maybe I'm wrong and what you said is totally true Matt

I'm kind tired of it, Drew. I think Exit, Please, Staring At The Sun or In God's Country would work better after SBS...And already have a lot of Bono stuff during the show (MLK, Sunday Bloody Sunday, One)...I think they have to play more in an basic way since I'm little tired of Bono's things hehe

As long as they didn't force a speech or something in there it'd be alright still but it needs a real rethink as does much of the set.

One Tree Hill, Gloria, I Threw A Brick, In God's Country and Out Of Control would be awesome on that stage. Just not MLK.
  7. 1. No Line On The Horizon
    2. Get On Your Boots
    3. Magnificent
    4. Mysterious Ways

    6. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
    7. Stay (Faraway, So Close!)
    8. Unknown Caller
    9. Until the End of the World
    10. New Year's Day
    11. The Unforgettable Fire
    12. City of Blinding Lights
    13. Vertigo
    14. Even Better Than the Real Thing
    15. Discotheque
    16. Sunday Bloody Sunday
    17. Bullet the Blue Sky
    18. Bad

    22. All I Want Is You
    23. Moment of Surrender

No Line is good enough to open.
Might as well have 3 new songs to start.
Bad would be a problem if played nightly soo I'm not so sure.
Different enough to be the same. A little bit of Pop and Achtung Baby never hurt anyone.
All I Want Is You would be more exciting these days than the crap WOWY.
    I'd be happy.

A LOT of Achtung Baby wouldn't hurt anyone - it'd maybe even help them...

That last bit makes no sense but you get my drift.

a little bit of pop hurts me! and thats far too much of a little amount for my liking and the most predictable song! if they played discotheque i'd still be disappointed. i want them to play something that's not been heard since popmart or else!

sorry but if the setlist looked liked that it wouldn't be anywhere near enough change for me... i know i'm probably being unrealistic but there you go

I think a rotation between your setlist and Matt's would work out quite nicely. Rotation of tracks from night to night is key.

    Something like...

    1. No Line
    2. Boots
    3. Magnificient
    4. Mysterious Ways (or The Fly)
    5, Beautiful Day
    6. ISHFWILF
    7. Stay (or Staring at the Sun)
    8. Until the End of the World
    9. I Will Follow (or New Year's Day)
    10. Unknown Caller (or Breathe)
    11. Bad (or Unforgettable Fire)
    12. Vertigo
    13. Discotheque (or HMTMKMKM or Mofo)
    14. Even Better Than The Real Thing
    15. Sunday Bloody Sunday (or Pride)
    16. Desire (full band - a la Zoo Tour)
    17. Crazy (album)
    18. One
    19. All I Want Is You (or Walk On)

    20. Where The Streets Have No Name
    21. Ultra Violet
    22. With or Without You
    23. Moment of Surrender

I have probably undersold ATYCLB and HTDAAB
  11. I ain't the biggest fan of BTBS but if Edge played it like he did in Dublin 93 I would happily have them play it 4 times in one night

That's a little extreme. It's a fine setlist. I get what you are saying about "Discotheque" but that too is a great song and I'd love to hear it.
