  3. the PS3 is quite an accomplished blu ray player. This is just bad source material. They have purposely made this film very dark (no idea why) and that has resulted in rather large amounts of noise that simply murder the picture.

    Noticed the sharpening filter on the HD broadcast. It is an effect they used Looks cool sometimes, but bit less would look more natural and less noisy. But it is something else than the blurryness of Popmart live from Mexico.

    BluRay player has no effect on quality, everything is digital now. Just 0's and 1's, nothing in between that can go wrong (in normal situations).

    Maybe your TV does some postprocessing ? Dynamic Contrast makes everything look darker.
  6. It"s dark in general. It's definitely the source. One looks great, it's steady and they hold the shots allowing more light in and a clearer picture. One is a one off though. Not a great transfer at all.

    None of the bonus material is in HD either
