"Pop" is such a great album, and is great to discover that others think the same.

"Staring At The Sun", "Please", "Gone", "Discothèque"... A lot of great stuff...

Shelved them for 360º tour? Longer than that. I don't recall them playing any during the Vertigo tour.

Elevation tour had a few. "Gone" was played regularly. They played an arrangement tacking "Staring at the Sun" to the end of "Discotheque" a few times. And there were post 9/11 acoustic performances of "Please".

I think "Mofo", "Last Night On Earth" would be great on the 360 tour. And "Gone"? Hello Bono... you HAVE a suit of lights on this tour!!!

They played Discotheque at a concert during the Vertigo tour, there's a vid somewhere on youtube.

  3. It was played twice during Vertigo Tour.
  4. I would love them to re-do POP. It would be class, maybe not change that much but to complete them as they always say the songs aren't finished, then they could bring the songs back for the 360 tour.

Don't get me wrong I love the songs but ya know, maybe they could do with some altercations, Mofo, Do You feel loved and The Playboy mansion...

Most people will probably disagree tho...
  5. You forget track #4 of all bootlegs

Gone That is the song that defines U2 to me.
  6. Pop is the ultimate example of an album that suffered by being a rush job. The live performances were all better.
  7. Enlighten yourself, pick a random bootleg and enjoy

  8. really like it but I can't stand it that they don't play it live live. that highly distorted part is just PA
  9. True, but i love Bono's vocals on it. Best one would be a 'Popmart' Gone with Elevation guitar outro. Wish they bring it back, I mean its the only solo Bono can play

  10. Yeah! I think the album is great, but it's a fact that "Please", "Gone", "Discothèque" and "Staring At The Sun" (the acoustic version on PopMart) all sounded better live than studio versions.
  11. No effin' way, Please and Gone (and maybe Mofo, but just because it was an amazing show opener) were the only songs that got better live than on the album. The rest (specially Discoteque, Do You Feel Loved and Last Night On Earth) sounded better on the album. Staring At The Sun was just different, not better, not worse.

I consider Pop (album) as a complete win, the only fail (which is in fact the low that makes the 97-98 look like a "bad" era to most fans) was the tour, which suffered of under-rehearse, too many under-average performances and a setlist which wasn't good enough to be as staple and un-changed as it was... But the album itself is at least 9/10 for me, it's only worse than Zooropa and Achtung Baby.
