The simple fact of the matter is that England just aren't that good. Form and fact show that they aren't really World Champion calibre, so why send them into every World Cup as potential favourites? Look at Uruguay for example, great team but not expected to win but onto the last 8 they go with the brilliance of the players and fans experiencing a good run? England are a not so great team but are constantly expected to go all the way just to fall every time and go down as a disappointment. Why isn't a second round defeat or a quarter finals spot not good enough?
I'm not suggesting that England play as defeatists, but simply wipe away this potential winners status, accept that you are maybe above average and have another go at it. Enjoy where it takes the team (even if it only is into the second round). Look at the USA, they got to the second round, enjoyed the run and were defeated with pride.
Blaming the ball is embarrassing.
Agreed.
