1. So missed some discussions here regarding Maffia-boss Blatter, England's Waterloo, Germany's uprising and the failing referees.

Let's beat Slovakia today. Will be hard enough.
  2. good morning, friends

wow, a lot of discussion has been going on since yesterday afternoon. as was to be expected. I stayed offline until now, as I know myself for being too emotional after such events, no matter if my team looses or wins - see my comment right after the game with a zillion smilies... doesn't look too good now that a new day is here

I can tell you, my English friends: as much as we certainly celebrate our victory in this classic game over here, there is no doubt in both the German media and among us football fans, that you got cheated for that goal, and that yes, maybe a 2:2 would have changed it all, as England was putting up a lot of pressure in that phase and Germany had problems dealing with that. It could have changed everything, and it's bitter that England had to go in the end. It leaves a bitter taste for sure. But on the other hand, a 4:1 is a clear result, as a 2:1 maybe would have never been.

I don't mean to start the discussion again, I just feel like saying we're happy like woah that our team played this strong and that we won and got to the next round - but there is also a good healthy respect for England and the widely acknowledgement of that goal. Newspapers, no, everyone here, calls it the Revenge for Wembley now, and you may forgive us for that, as the Wembley goal still has its place in our hearts and minds even after all these decades.
But we're not laughing about England that we send them home. We all laugh about Italy, that's a whole different story. England has our respect, and it was a classic and grand game yesterday. All due respect to that. One team had to win, it could have been England as well.
We all agree - no matter if you sit in an English or a German pub today - that yesterday's referee is the blindest creature walking on Earth.

and this is a fairly long comment, given the fact I didn't want to say that much

Thanks for your nice words .

I bet you were laughing when Heskey came on instead of Defoe though?

I hope you knock out the cheating Argentinians too
  4. First time I watch a football match for 8 years and England were shockingly bad. I'll go have another 8 years off I think.

PS all this debate about allowing replays is irrelevant. Firstly, the ref should have been able to allow it without needing a replay, it was so obvious.
Secondly, England were so woeful they would still have lost anyway. Or dealt Germay a huge injustice if they hadn't.

    My 2p

How were England woeful? we scored 2 good goals, hit the bar twice, Rooney wasn't offside in the first 2 minutes so he would have had a 1 on 1. And Germany's last 2 goals were from counter attacks because we were trying to get a goal back which should have counted.

I'll be the 1st to admit we were terrible in the whole tournament but we didn't even play that bad. Ok defence was shocking for the 1st two goals but thats it.

We probably wouldn't have lost anyway because it would have been 2-2, 2 goals in 2 minutes, Germany would have been demoralised and we would have been on a high.

Now you disqualify Germany's counter-goals while countering needs to be mastered too. And the Germans did that. All in all, Germany deserved to win. England had some good opportunities and a lot of bad luck, but Germany had some good chances too besides the four goals.

And James needs replacement. Greene might drop a ball, James can't keep his goal clean at all.

I'm not disqualifying, I'm just saying if that 2nd goal would have counted we wouldnt need so many players up trying to get a 2nd goal. yeah both the counter attack goals were skill but they wouldn't have had the chance if we had more players back.

We should have had Harte in goal for the whole tournament, he did the best in the Premiership this year, so we agree there
  8. Beating a dead horse.
If it helps you, the german win was undeserved and lucky and the english team was performing well but got robbed by the ref (even if the english players say otherwise).

    Let's move on.

Couldn't agree with you more, that helps a lot. Nah all I'm saying is the game was spoilt and England weren't even that bad. Algeria was an embarrasing performance but this wasn't that bad, we scored 2 goals against Germany...

Blindness. We were dreadful. A Premier league defender should not leave holes like that, especially not all 4 of them. The 2 goals were well crafted, yes and Lampard was very close with his free-kick. But that's 10 minutes in the first half and 5 in the second.

We couldn't retain possession at all and what were we doing leaving only one defender when there was still 25 minutes left to be played? Germany should never have been given the chance to score a (brilliantly crafted) counter-attack goal, let alone 2.

Defence was woeful and attack was largely uninspired. Didn't play a decent match in the whole championship and deservedly flying back home. At least now we can watch some decent teams.
  11. PS I thought (with the possible exception of Lampard) that James was our best player yesterday. He might have saved the 3rd goal, but if it wasn't for him it could have been 6 or even 7-1.
  12. England were abysmal mate - should have conceded at least 4 goals in the first half alone.

Decision not to award goal was utterly criminal but it shouldnt paper over the cracks - the players should be ashamed of themselves.
