1. Worst match of the tournament for me in that I didn't want either team to go out, they've both been great up to tonight and continued it through to the end of the match. Suarez is a class act but I'm not liking much of his attitude, as Gerard eloquently phrased it Forlan though, fantastic player - what Man Utd would give to have had him play like this back then. Ghana can be so proud though, and I think the future's bright for them when you think how many of those players have barely broken into their 20s - valuable experience they can take into the next few international tournaments.

I think this tournament has thrown a couple things into the spotlight though - a) goal-line technology or something to prevent gaffs e.g. Lampard's 'goal', and b) in situations like Suarez's handball; should football take a hint from rugby and award penalty goals or the like? There was no doubt that would have been a goal bar for cheating, whether it was intentional or instinctive.

I've also been racking my brains as to a team of the tournament thus far...anyone fancy throwing their suggestions in?
  2. So unfair to Ghana. Te red card was not enough...it costed their classification.
There shoud be a purple card that bans that player from the next world cup too.

  3. No. Ghana's inability to score a goal from 11m cost them the classification.

Besides, the free kick that led to the situation, was no foul. So unfairness equals unfairness in this case.

And it was also offside, the guy who shot at the goal before the hands-touch was clearly offside.
  5. Probably the best red card anybody could ever concede. Oh how I hate the guy though.

  6. Suarez is a world-class player, I'm sure he'll be in the top of Europe anytime soon. I'm so glad we have him in Ajax, he scored more goals than anyone in Europe this season.

His actions were stupid but he took one for the team.
  7. a penaltie for kaka was cancelled. i'm sad.
  8. Fascinating ending. I was at work and audibly gasped at my desk when he hit the crossbar. I wanted to see Ghana advance, but does it really matter? Getting up early on a Saturday for the Germany/Argentina match tomorrow. Can't wait!

Appiah? Hard to tell... Not sure if the ball came from Boateng or the goalkeeper... Tend to agree, though. Then the big scandal would be the red card for Suarez

aah yes tomorrow, Arg-Ger. Its so hard to say who will win! Both countries are very strong, guess we'll know in 16 hours.

  11. Suarez just did what anyone would do in the world cup querterfinals... well deserved win for Uruguay.
