We don't say we've lost because of him. He just destroyed the final by making major fouls at both sides. Van Bommel, De Jong and later on Robben should have been sent off as well, instead of Heitinga which wasn't red I think. But look at Iniesta en Puyol, they should have been given red as well. And yes, we can complain about the corner kick. He just was very bad at any side. That's what made this final so brutal. But Spain deserved the win.
  2. I'm still on the refs side i'm afraid. I can only fault him for not punching Iniesta for signalling the ref to card Hetenga. And for missing the deflection off the free kick. Other than that he was as good as they come.

Maybe no ref could have done better. Sad...
  4. They didn't want the ball''.
"And regrettably, sadly, they played very dirty. So much so that they should have been down to nine immediately, then they made two (such) ugly and hard tackles that even I felt the damage.
"It hurts me that I was wrong in my disagreement that instead Holland chose an ugly path to aim for the title.
"This ugly, vulgar, hard, hermetic, hardly eye-catching, hardly football style, yes it served the Dutch to unsettle Spain. If with this they got satisfaction, fine, but they ended up losing.
    "They were playing anti-football."

    Guess who?
  5. I don't see why some people are saying Heitinga was unfortunate; the 1st yellow was justified, must have been his 3rd foul in a sequence or something, and the 2nd yellow, well, he pulled Iniesta back outside the box when he was through on goal - not the last man, there a yellow, and 2 yellows = red, so I don't see the problem. Anyway...

I think you'll find that's the same emotion most fans of nigh on every country around the world feels after most tournaments pass on 2006 was as close as I can claim to have felt that buzz, being part-Italian, but because I'm not part of an Italian community, it didn't feel the same as I imagine an English tournament win would be.

Agree on every count, I thought Webb did the best job he could, unfortunately he was refereeing a shitter of a match as far as fair-play and continuity goes - don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it, but hardly one for the purists, I believe the term goes.

    Johan Cruyff, I think?
  6. That is Johan

Webb should've given De Jong red, and the FIFA should ban him for at least a month or two. Reckless behaviour. If not I'd sue.
  7. Random question - anyone else think Sergio Ramos bears a passing resemblance to Jennifer Aniston?

(don't know what the implication of that is, i.e. who should feel more offended, but anyway...)
  8. It is a shame Holland reverted to hard, physical play. Unfortunately though, I don't think the best team of the tournament won. Maybe it's because Spain were firm favourites and just completely failed to impress. However, they were better than Holland in the final, so I guess, they deserved to win.

Perhaps though, with their inability to convert chances, if Robben had slotted home that ball on 60 minutes we'd have painted the town orange. Credit to Casillas though for just having sheer composure in that situation. Nothing to do with Robbens ability, a one on one situation is all down to the keeper. And on that point, both goalkeepers were excellent.

Howard Webb, I thought he had a good game. People complain that he failed to dismiss 3/4 players but that's just rubbish. If he'd sent off Van Bommel, De Jong, Iniesta, Heitinga, Robben and whoever else people think should've been sent off, the same people who are complaining about his performance wwill still complain, but this time it'll be that he failed to control the game/killed it off by sending the majority of players off. Howard Webb tends to assert his authority, book players for fouls in the hope that other players don't follow suit. He also likes to keep everyone on the pitch when it comes to big games because we see it time and time again, a player is sent off in a final and the spectacle is killed. Only red he missed was De Jongs. He was extremely leniant with the Dutch and they should be grateful because they would have been thrashed if they'd been down to 9 or 8 men.
  9. Great keeper, but the Robben shouldnt give the best keeper a chance in those situations.

    Congrats with the title sergio!
  10. see Casilias lay one on the hot news reporter hahaha
