1. It's nice to see different opinions...

I love it live because it sounds so different if we compare both versions...and I think Edge's effects sound better, but sure I can understand what you're saying Sergio, and I think the reason could be the fact that they recorded the song using 2 guitars, if I'm not wrong...

  2. I really like this song now for whatever reason, It has grown on me in a weird way.

At first i was kind of over the top excited for this song thinking it was going to be the greatest tune ever. Then i was really down hating on it kind of like a majority of people around here.

However recently partially as a result of what i think is the fantastic performance on the dvd, i have settled into really liking this song. Won't mind hearing it for some years to come.

Agrre about the fact thet they could play it faster live, but this song is even better live in my opinion because of Edge. His guitar really sounds fantastic there ...and that intro and the chorus are so great...

I'm 100% with you here one of their best songs ever, it really works every time for me.

just last night, I was putting in the Berlin 2009-07-18 dvd and actually watched it from the beginning without just zapping through it like I so often do with all the 360 videos.... I sat there and got lost in the songs, the show... and when Magnificent began with that incredible intro, I got those goosebumps all over again, and I just thought "oh.my.god.", you know, when you have seen some parts of a U2 dvd a zillion times and somehow got "used to it", but suddenly it works its magic again and you really see it again and feel it again -- that's what happenend to me with Magnificent last night, and it brought tears to my eyes as only a few U2 songs can

No need to feel embarrassed about it. Agree fully, totally 100% here.
  6. Somehow this song never hit me. It was their weakest when they played it on the tour imo.

Just played this song again as I saw you'd resurrected the topic, and there's something about the way the song builds and opens up (at 0:46) that gets me EVERY time. Not usually a fan of this one live, but as far as the studio cut goes, I have no complaints. Edge's delay brings "good" to "perfection", as per usual.

Beginning is indeed great, the song has lots of potential. But its just too long with bit boring lyrics. If it was 03:24 it would have been lot better than the 5:24 it is now.

I'm using your post to say that this radio edit of the song is so... terrible. My mother (who did not listen to the album version before she heard it on the radio) even told me "come on, there is something missing here isn't it ?" many times during the song
