wow, your good,, that was cool, well said.

I have to say Dieder; NO WAY is Zooropa better than the Joshua Tree, I have to say I find that laughable, no offence to anyone who likes Zooropa...

To say that someone's opinion is laughable neither establishes credit nor proves a point- Dieder likes Zooropa better, and you like The Joshua Tree better, which REALLY means that the only people that can win this debate are U2, since such a wide range of music they've made is making people happy.

The fact of the matter is that it's a matter of personal preference- there is absolutely no system or rubric by which either album can be determined as "better".

yes your are right once again,

    EDIT: Appologies, I'm an idiot

  3. No apologies necessary- it's all good, and I doubt anyone is truly offended. Our time is just much better spent on other aspects of the albums than whether or not we thought they were better than The Joshua Tree, when it's really moot to discuss whose opinion is more right.

Anyway, something I love about Pop, which hasn't really been discussed so far, is the "coolness" of the album. Somebody- I can't remember who it was, forgive me- once said on these boards, "I just imagine Edge playing "The Playboy Mansion" as he floats around on a raft in a huge pool, nothing on but trunks and his sunglasses, guitar in his lap, just strumming along...and I totally and completely agree with that. I think the album has this really laid back vibe to it- which obvious had its vices, seeing as how they didn't really finish it, and some people thought it was a tad lazy- but to me, it is unlike ANY other U2 record, and I can lounge to that one better than any other.
  4. At first listen Zooropa sounds like throwaway and Joshua Tree as an absolute epic. But for me it turned out different. Joshua Tree has a more epic feeling overall, but songs like RHMT just waste it for me. Zooropa however, well, where to begin. When I listen to that album from Zooropa to The Wanderer I feel like I've been on a trip or something, it's just a really strange but great feeling. Zooropa is just funky, sexy and experimental. That's how I like it.

And non taken guys, opinions differ

  6. I was in the army at the time zooropa came out and had to walk 12 miles to buy it as i was based in the middle off nowhere,,,i just love that album and when played really loud its even better ,, Pop made U2 cool and gave them a lot of tv exposer in britan ,it was like for once everyone who was anyone loved u2 and wanted a peace off them,,,for me pop was the only way to go forward from zooropa and i know it was unfinished but i still love it all the same ...
Autung Baby ,Zooropa and PoP shown the world that here is a band willing to go that one step further than any other band and not play it safe ,ie Oasis is a great band but all there albums sound the same and theres no pushing the bounderys, U2 not only pushed the bounderys with these albums but pushed the live shows that went with them,,no other band has since beat this and i dont think anyother band ever will....For me U2 made the 90's cool and made my 20's a joy ..
  7. Pop and Popmart were the start of U2 for me. A friend introduced me to AB and Mysterious Ways was what really hooked me with U2, followed closely by Promenade (couldn't get two songs further apart really!). Anyway, Pop has a special place in my heart as it was the first album and tour that I was completely involved with. I think it;s a good album as a comment on excess of celebriuty in the 90's and I feel it's quite introspective in a songwriting point of view.

As a side point, I think the b-sides to the Pop singles are probably the best selction of b-sides from an album. Think of Two Shots, Slow Dancing, Happiness is a Warm Gun.
  8. I re-ripped Pop and Zoroopa into ALAC - Lossless quality an I'm listening to them through great wuality headphone and I'm really feeling Daddy's Gonna Pay at the moment , also The Playboy Mansion

    Songs I never thought I'd like *D
  9. How did you rerip the into ALAC?

  10. Don't have itunes handy but there is a 'ripping' options in preferences somewhere. You can change it from mp3 or whatever to alac
