    Cheers for the feedback - I'm not sure whether to go with the big bombastic feel, or perhaps a more lowkey Wake Up Deadman-esque/PopMart SBS-style. I mean, for the moment, I'm limited in what I can do, but I'll have a gander. Just nice to be able to contribute something to the thread again after you guys have been stealing the limelight

    PS - I'd forgotten the 'revolution' line could be seen as a reference too lol

    Aw, that's too bad. What I did was... plugged everything into my DigiTech and plugged that into the comp. Clicked "record" on Audacity and everything kind of found it's way. A lot simpler than I ever imagined. It just miffed me off because it had been under my nose literally ever since I started - a band / writing music / wanting to record.

    No problem. Honestly, any song can go either way. It's up to you and only you, which makes it special.

    Ah yes. That moment from R&H still gives me goosebumps.

  4. What do you guys do to get inspiration? What do you guys do when you get the infamous sickness that all writers fear and try to avoid? WRITERS BLOCK - and it's what I have now.

    It seems that when I'm forced into writing I get this, my band is playing a show at the end of the month (we've only had 2 practises as reformed band ) and I've been called upon to write lyrics to a ballad we came up with. (we came up with the music as a band). Where do you guys get inspiration when there aren't any words coming to mind?

    The others are a lot more prolific with putting lyrics together, but I figure I might have something worthwhile to say too lol generally, I just brainstorm ideas, phrases, random words, anything that I'd associate with a core theme or something that I'm thinking about. I mean, browsing through what I've come up with, there have been occasions where the songs have sort of written themselves and come to me like that, but that's not often - I generally have to work at putting together what I think to be a cohesive lyric, because often I write stuff that fits poetic structure than something musical. Which is annoying. Lol. But yeah, if you're struggling for inspiration, the stuff above might not be that helpful.

    One trick I have found recently is just to write in free-flow - I'm sure there's a better term for it, but basically I just close my eyes and write whatever comes into my head, whether it rhymes or not, or even makes sense or not. I managed to write the basis for a fairly decent and lengthy verse the other day in that way in about 20 seconds, which was surprising lol. Maybe, as inspiration, just think about your relationships with people you know, maybe find something in that to wax lyrical about, or perhaps even just make something up completely - if it's a ballad you're trying to come up with, work out some short simple narrative, and maybe use that as the basis to work through something? I dunno, that probably all sounds kinda vague so I apologise lol.

    Hope that's of some help, but if it isn't, hope the sun breaks through the clouds for you soon! So to speak.

    Well... that's a tricky question. Unfortunately I can't just look at a picture or listen to a song for inspiration. It's all very random. Some (few) of my ideas can come from conversation (i.e. the "darkness" quote that I just posted). So, that's really the only thing that I can say might offer help. However, obviously, don't plan on it. Just talk and let it happen.

    Well, first off... what do you want the song to be about? What do you want me to say when I hear the song? Should I say anything at all (I want to hear your thoughts take change and walk right out...)? Where do you want to play it, what are you wearing when you play it? What does your face look like while playing it? What is the crowd doing (singing, jumping, holding a lighter, etc.)? Just ask your self questions and let everything flow. Don't think... when I write, I try not to think. I write the very bare ideas, then once those are finished, I go back, change words and make it look pretty. That's the hard part, letting it out. But once you get one line out, it all comes very easily.

    Or, listen to a similar song, rap over the song with that song's melody, then try those lines over your own song (and your own melody).

    Ha, I do that all the time, either the making up lyrics or working out a harmony which I really like, then completely forget later, which takes the piss even more.

    That's actually how I started writing songs... for my first song (scrapped loooong ago) I ripped off Citizen Erased. Yeah, that always happens to me. It's such a shame, because it seems like it's always the best ideas that get away, right?

    That first night you took me up high
    We circled the city by the moonlight

    When I said I wanted to go down
    You said don't be afraid I'll turn us around

    Before we flew back she made me see
    the sunset of gold reflecting off of the sea

    We circled mountains tied up in white lace
    As we swam through the clouds I kissed your face

    Up and down we went with the air
    As we flew over I ran my hands through your hair

    As we flew back home I felt I understood love
    With the neon below and her just above
