I really miss that song. I hope they bring it on the tour.

  2. Was I assume some gossip stuf in Dublin papers likely about him, listen to the song and you understand, it's a long snippet but o so great

  3. "I refuse to crawl" is definitely not a part of Candle In The Wind. I know the lyrics to that song from start to end and it's not a verse there. "While those around you crawl" is the verse you're probably refering to, but "I refuse to crawl"? Nope.

    Agreed

Bono spun the lyrics at Self Aid.
  6. "Goodbye Norma Jean
Though I never knew you at all
You had the grace to hold yourself
    While those around you crawled
They crawled out of the woodwork
And they whispered into your brain
They set you on the treadmill
And they made you change your name

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing who to cling to
    When the rain set in
And I would have liked to have known you
But I was just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
    Your legend ever did

    Loneliness was tough
The toughest role you ever played
    Hollywood created a superstar
And pain was the price you paid
    Even when you died
Oh the press still hounded you
All the papers had to say
Was that Marilyn was found in the nude

    Goodbye Norma Jean
From the young man in the 22nd row
Who sees you as something as more than sexual
More than just our Marilyn Monroe "

  7. Live Aid is the best version ever, absolutely hands down - it changed everything

I would have to agree. I guess its more of what is the BEST live version versus what had the most impact. Live Aid clearly had a huge and the most impact. But it was not the greatest performance of the song IMO. Its probably the longest due to Bono's connecting with the audience. But that has nothing to do with the musical performance of it for me anyway.

I think some of the most powerful versions were on The Joshua Tree tour. I also think shows they used it to close with were good from a show pacing perspective. Some of the Vertigo versions of Bad were excellent (some were the standard).

Its definately a warhorse they should use in regular rotation if not every night. Unfortunately the band clearly does not feel that way currently.
  9. I've posted in the Amazing Grace topic a while ago, saying that my favorite Amazing Grace snippet is the one from 1986-06-08 Denver....... but I didn't say that it's located into one of the most powerful Bad's I ever heard. Ok, the sound is crappy and you even can't hear Edge at times, but... It's so incredibly powerful, it has about 3 or 4 incredible crecendos and Bono delivers a 10/10 vocals. Very recommended if you have 10 spare minutes and don't mind a crappy audio - but a killer version.
  10. If Blue_Room meant actual lenght he's obviously wrong. More than one Bad clock over the 12:20 of the Live Aid version. But I don't think he meant "the longest" in lenght sense, but in the version which has been remembered for the longest time.

No I'm pretty damn sure he meant "the longest".
