1. What are people hearing in Stingray? I hear Edge playing like 2 chords against a teardrop backing track. It's cool, I guess, but it's seriously like nothing at all.

I've found myself thinking the same. There's not much to it at all, I think it needs more work if its ever to become an album song. If they put it out as is, I'll be pretty disappointed. Nothing will ever come close to 4th of July for U2 instrumentals though

    It's a great song !....

    ... for Super Mario.

THIS is what i've been saying for the past month. It's boring as all hell and the high pitched percussion backing track is annoying.

Maybe it's only obvious to guitar players?
  5. Or maybe people just have different tastes?

  6. Leave it. Lyndon and Aaron will never understand such statement.

  7. This doesn't change the fact that the intro is repetitive and goes absolutely nowhere.

Now whether people like it that way is a different story but the plain fact is that the intro is simple - you can't argue that it's actually a 4 part symphony because you have different tastes.
  8. I'm not saying "Why do people think it's so good", because I understand some people like it, and I don't. I'm asking if they're hearing something in it that I'm not, or try to explain why its' so cool to them, so that I can possibly listen to it from a different perspective.

I'd like to think I came about it a more intelligent way than posting "Stingray sucks!"

    You did. He didn't. Simples

Lyndon - no-one was trying to argue it was the new Beethoven 9th. They were trying to argue they liked the song. Like I do. Also simples
  10. Stingray is a great intro. Who cares if he plays 2 chords in the song? It's to get the crowd going.
  11. I haven't really paid much attention to the new songs that have been played live as they will probably change in the studio.

That said, the cover version of Glastonbury performed by Xiren is brilliant. If Bono can put that much emotion into his vocals, it will rock.

P.S. I don't know if the Xiren version has been mentioned before (sorry if it has), but you should check it out on youtube.
  12. Soon - Breathe was a way better intro then Stingray - BD. If you're going to perform a new song to open the concert, make it an actual song. I guess it gives Bono the chance to dance around and open the show, but still. I liked Larry coming on and drumming himself after, almost like a reverse 40.
