Well, most of us heard 30 seconds of each song on NLOTH over two months before it was released, and no one complained ... But I get what you say, and I more or less agree. They have played that songs in front of over 500.000 people, and they know that thousands more have listened/watched them thru the itnernet. The most logical thing would be releasing an EP containing studio versions of the songs, and not including them on the upcoming album. But there's always the lazyness...........

Yes, but they would be the same songs after all. Even with different lyrics and/or tempos and/or chord structure, the fact is that we would already know them! And not only us, hardcore fans etc. : thousands of casual fans have listened to them already!!

Don't get me wrong: I would love them releasing North Star and EBW and Glastonbury... I just dont want that already known (in a way) songs to get the spot of 3 or 4 other completely unknown tunes in the new album

I think it's a great marketing idea. This way when you buy the album you aren't just buying it because of the band or the single. You know 3 or 4 songs off it.

Why U2 can't include even a few 'real outtakes' as a second rarities album or EP I dunno, not polished, not doctored - as is. A live EP just doesn't sound that interesting or appealing to many. More people would possibly be willing to pay the $10 or whatever it is, if the band bothers to include something remotely interesting. A poster, book, arthouse film and not much else doesn't do it for most people - including myself.

Why not release an EP or iTunes release of bonus tracks or even a real concert DVD alongside it showing the new songs being played e.g. Mercy, Spiderman, Glastonbury etc and some backstage footage? Even a documentary showing the process of recording in-studio.
