1. I'm surprised people are even playing it I read on the net yesterday, someone who had it from Amazon early, they said it was rather a bit underwhelming. Even so, I'll get it

GT2 is by far the best in my eyes.

GT3 for me. GT4 was why my GCSE results weren't what they should have been. . .

  3. How does GT5 compare to GT HD (the one offered as a free download on PSN Store)?

  4. Size. GT5 is massive. Lots and lots of cars. It drives the same though (for the cars offered). I'm just not feeling it though. Load times are terrible (can be sped up if you move 8GB game to your HD but that could take forever). The damage models are very poor, the main homescreen hits you with a pop up every few seconds, graphics are so so. The exterior of all cars look amazing but I think the interiors, tracks and landscapes are pretty average.

Overall it's feeling that it really should have came out 2 years ago. But if you have the time and appreciate a proper simulator and you can handle the load times and annoying pop ups then all is good.
  5. So GT5 turned out to be a disappointment.

I can't believe that Polyphony only managed to model 200 cars in 5 years! the rest of the 800 'Standard' models are just straight imports from GT4 on PS2 and look absolutely disgraceful:

I mean even Forza managed to full model 400 cars (interiors and exteriors) in 2 years, what have they been doing all this time?

Also all the tracks have horrible looking cardboard cutout 2D trees and some of the tracks look exactly like a PS2 game:

The AI apparently still will crash straight into you if you leave your car stopped on the track and the load times are supposed to be horrendous (up to 80 seconds for 1 race), apparently you even have to wait for menus to load.

And people have been finding ridiculous glitches like this one:
  6. I sold it

  7. What!?

    Really? After waiting 5 years?

Was it really that bad? From the reviews/impressions it seemed that it was more disappointing in that despite the long development time the game was flawed - not that it was a bad game.
  8. I wanted to be astounded having waited 5 years. All i'm seeing is an extension to Prologue unfortunately. Load times are terrible (even after waiting an hour to install 9gb to the hd drive), the damage models seems to be non existent (one of the causes for delay). Ive crashed cars at 200mph and not had a scratch. The menus are full of annoying pop ups. Car interiors are poorly modelled and the landscapes are fairly flat.

It's just not the game changer I expected. I will probably rebuy it in the new year but I wont miss it until then.

Oh, I see - gee it must be tough if you went out and bought a PS3 back in 2007 for this game.
Some of my friends are getting it this week and so can check it out myself.

But when you see people posting pics like these, it certainly is disappointing

  10. Looks like they have just put too much into the 3D side of things. Likely to be the eason for the bulk of delays. It does just seem half arsed. Massive shame. Think i'll get that new Need For Speed for my driving kicks.

If you were into GT5, then you maybe want to try NFS: Shift that came out last year. It's the most realistic NFS ever and it has the best 'behind-the-wheel' camera ever.

The new one, 'Hot Pursuit' is also a great game, but far less realistic, but also more fun if you ask me.

Seems like GT5 is huge dissapointment. All reviewers say that it's better to pick Forza 3, which is Xbox 360 exclusive.

Oh, Hot Pursuit 2 is really good - is holding a 90% average on MetaCritic - gameplay is great, but it's a semi-realistic arcade racer like PGR and not a proper sim.

Good graphics as well - these are some ingame (not photomode / replay) screens:

I downloaded the demo from PSN - you might want to check that out (not sure if it's still there though, since it was supposed to be for a limited time only)
