my thoughts about this one ..
Sunday will never be in the encore
Original of the species will never end the main set
I dont' think Breathe will return
The fly is very good to open the encore
Gone better then Last night on earth
  5. Breathe may never return, but Stingray going INTO Breathe is actually a cool idea. Have the band crowd around Larry's set as Edge gets the feedback going, and then when the song comes in they all just turn around at the same time, explode towards the front as the lights kick back on...I miss Breathe.

I too am surprised they dropped it....I mean, they played it on SNL, which makes one think they have a bit of "love" for the song. And bring back NLOTH. Great tune and some casual fans might think it's from Achtung Baby. (I always thought it sounded like a bit of a cross between "Until the End of the World" and "Ultra Violet"...not too sure why..could a musician help me on this one?)

    Sure.

    It's a f*cking badass song.
  9. Once "Mercy" got played, it lost a lot of what it was to me originally. Maybe (probably) because they changed the lyrics that I had spent quite a while connecting with and creating an entire musical story to.

For this reason, I hope "Acrobat" remains unplayed. It should be played at the final concert U2 ever give, on some "farewell" tour or what-have-you. But never consistently. Then what will we have to hold on to like that? Granted, they probably wouldn't change the song too much, but still...it's sacred the way we hear it now. Why chance it?

NLOTH the song sounds a lot like The Fly, especially when they kick into the 2nd verse.

I know what you mean, the vocals on the 6 and a half minute version are so mysterious and elusive and dark almost. It's a great vocal take and some interesting lyrics that are gone. Its a great (but imperfect song) the 2010 versions are just catchier if anything but even then it's still not radio hit material so Idk what the point of making it like that was. I don't imagine it on the radio at al.

I'm soo over Acrobat being played live LOL like people, move on. Its a beautiful song as is. I agree that they wont improve on it at all live. They have other songs to bring back before debuting Acrobat imo.
  12. I'm really over them "debuting" songs at all...they've played almost every one that deserves a live slot. I'm into them giving older ones a chance like they did on the Vertigo Tour. I think they kind of had that going on in '09 with TUF coming back, and UV being in the encore, but I'm talking songs like...

    A Sort of Homecoming
    Two Hearts Beat as One
    Seconds
    Gloria
    Twilight

You know, they weren't afraid of alienating a young crowd for a few songs during the Vertigo Tour, and they were JUST as "on top of the world" then as they are now. There's no shortage of sellouts- people won't stop buying tickets because there are 2 or 3 songs in a show that they haven't heard of. Perhaps the stadium setting just doesn't lend itself to these types of songs. Who knows.

Between Vertigo's new material/older song-resurrection (even including Zoo Station), it really only left about 5 or 6 slots for "greatest hits", with SBS, Bullet, Pride, Streets, and One. Beautiful Day and Elevation were still relatively new, and virtually everything else was very very specific to that tour. (I suppose Mysterious Ways and NYD were kept from past tours). This tour, we have...

    -Elevation
    -BD
    -One
    -Streets
    -Pride (on occasion)
    -WOWY
    -SBS
    -Still Haven't Found
    -Mysterious Ways

It really is the U2 greatest-hits tour. If you were to knock that list down to 6 songs instead of the 9, you could drop "With or Without You", "Pride", and "Elevation" and make room for very tour-defining performances.
