certainly not an epic one but more experimental (so better) than HTDAAB.
  3. Hi everybody! Well, it's been a long time since I've been here.
I remember the day when No Line On The Horizon released, I bought the box set, then huge disappointment. I remember when they rehearsed to the tour, the first few gigs completed, then huge disappointment.
But now, I can see that it is not so bad, I just had to deference that this era is mainly not about music but not that cool as PopMart or Zooropa.

So No Line On The Horizon in more than 2 years distance: It's definitely better album than ATYCLB and HTDAAB. But will it be a classic as Achtung Baby or Joshua Tree? I don't think so, it'll become a sort of Rattle And Hum but it's on the future.

    1 - No Line On The Horizon | 8/10:
I didn't like it first becouse of Bono's voice but now one of my favourites on the album.

    2 - Magnificent | 4/10:
First it was one of my favourites but now I find tiring to listen to it. Too long and too calculable.

    3 - Moment Of Surrender | 9/10:
Still one of the best both musically and lyrically. And the best part is on the end when Bono doesn't start rapping.

    4 - Unknown Caller | 9/10:
Sibling of Moment Of Surrender, pure genius. The only worse things are Edge's singing (Sunshine, sunshine) and the long instrumental organ solo before Edge's guitar. If they would sort them out this would be the best on the album for me.

    5 - I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight | 4/10:
Lyrics are full of cliches but the music is catchy. But still I often skip it.

    6 - Get On Your Boots | 0/10
    Meh...

    7 - Stand Up Comedy | 2/10
Almost as Boots but still better without gay choruses.

    8 - Being Born | 10/10
The thing why I've bought No Line. This is the whole album. The only song on the album which really gives you something new, something Arabic and something they've been promising for us for 3 years.

    9 - White As Snow | 1/10
Seriously? Why is this on the album? They could put it on a B-side or something while put Winter or something else on the album. I hope next time they'll say Bono: "If you want to sing folk songs go home and do it in the shower!"

    10 - Breathe | 6/10
Quite good but it is like a leftover from Atomic Bomb. The live version was miles more enjoyable. Nothing new and interesting.

    11 - Cedars Of Lebanon | 8/10
Too long intro but the other part is brilliant.

    61/110

So as they said "it is a very innovative album and the best thing they've done ever" we know that it isn't. There are some innovative things but only on 3 or maximum 4 songs. And those are not enough to make this record their best.

It seems my opinion changed a lot but I'm still more pessimist that I should be.
  4. In short, I still rate the album very highly. Their boldest since Achtung for sure.
  5. This is my rank:

    1. No Line On The Horizon - 8/10
    2. Magnificent - 8/10
    3. Moment of Surrender - 8/10
    4. Unknown Caller - 9/10
    5. I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Crazy Tonight - 6/10
    6. Get On Your Boots - 7/10
    7. Stand Up Comedy - 5/10
    8. Fez-Being Born - 8/10
    9. White As Snow - 7/10
    10. Breathe - 6/10
    11. Cedars Of Lebanon - 6/10
  6. Better than ATYCLB and Bomb, but not by that much. There's no real crap on here, every song kind of serves a purpose. The band went for a Beatles vibe of having a wide variety of songs (Crazy, Tonight, MOS, Cedars on the same album for goodness sakes) but it lacks coherence. But I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing in this day and age. times have changed as much as we'd like to, we don't listen to albums straight through always, we get roughly half or just our favorites. This is where NLOTH succeeds imo, the songs themselves are good except a few of course (looking at you White as Snow and Boots)

Yeah some songs have cringeworthy lyrics but don't all albums have them? Overall I think this album is a good 7.5/8 out of 10 with some only 4 songs that I truly give 10/10. NLOTH, MOS, Fez and Cedars being the masterpeices
  7. I think Boots is one of the 10/10s on this album, that song doesn't get boring, like Magnificent which I thought was the best track on the album when I first got it, now I think it's the worst. And I don't think White as Snow is too bad either.
  8. My defensive rating on this album, on my iPod nearly every track has 5/5 stars.

    1. No Line On The Horizon - 9/10
    2. Magnificent - 5/10
    3. Moment of Surrender - 10/10
    4. Unknown Caller - 8/10
    5. I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Crazy Tonight - 9/10
    6. Get On Your Boots - 10/10
    7. Stand Up Comedy - 7/10
    8. Fez-Being Born - 9/10
    9. White As Snow - 8/10
    10. Breathe - 10/10
    11. Cedars Of Lebanon - 10/10

That would give the album 8,64/10 from me
  9. 1. No Line On The Horizon - 10/10
    2. Magnificent - 4/10
    3. Moment Of Surrender - 10/10
    4. Unknown Caller - 6/10
    5. I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight - 2/10
    6. Get On Your Boots - 1/10
    7. Stand Up Comedy - 3/10
    8. Fez-Being Born - 10/10
    9. White As Snow - 10/10
    10. Breathe - 2/10
    11. Cedars Of Lebanon - 10/10

    Total Score: 6/10

    4. Unknown Caller 8/10 : not a lot to add, it just works for me
    5. Crazy 1/10 really lame album version, particularly compared to the live
    6. Get On Your Boots 6/10: not such a bad song, quite "fun", and I like it live
    7. Stand Up Comedy 7/10: two minutes too long, great riff.
    8. Fez-Being Born 10/10: took me some times, but this is the true heir of Zooropa
    9. White as Snow 3/10: boooooring. I always skip it.
    10. Breathe 5/10 : might have worked if Bono had voice
    11. Cedars of Lebanon 9/10: Great finisher, great modern ballad.

Yet overall, I still rate it their third best album. The weak songs only highlight the goods.
However, the band obviously lacked inspiration.

Ok, this is their 3rd best album for you, yet only 3 songs are 8/10 or better, and 6 of the 11 songs are 6/10 or worse? That means you really must only like 2 other U2 albums, and hate 9 others? Wow. So out of Pop, Achtung Baby, Joshua Tree, and Zooropa....you think 2 of those stink?
