Just my own rant, this Royal Wedding bollocks has been annoying the shit out of me all day. Contrived and moronic. Sorry, I'm a staunch Republican.

I wouldn't mind as much, although I'd still might get annoyed, if we had an elected head of state. I just think monarchies are outdated, and indeed were never justified - the only reason such people are in the positions they are is because their ancestors were bigger and nastier than their peers/enemies/whatever I can't confess to feeling that much in the way of an affiliation to my country at times, but partly because I don't feel all that English/British 'cause of my own personal heritage, i.e. half of my ancestry is Eastern Europe, Italy etc. Not saying any heritage is better than the other, but I really don't buy into it. And watching some of the people that got interviewed just made me cringe, like, talking about royalty as if they were there by divine providence. It's, urgh.
I'm perfectly happy for the two of them as much as I am for any couple getting married, it's a big day for their lives, but so much of the buildup and the reality of it irks me. Commentators and the like celebrating this as being some kind of magical moment where the royalty have connected with the people 'cause Kate/Catherine is a 'commoner' - her family are fucking loaded, hardly like they've had it tough. And I'm not one who cares all that much for Diana either - not as a disrespect to the dead. Yes I cried when her funeral or whatever was broadcast, but I was 6? And just saw everyone else being sad so joined in lol. But, bah, I'll stop before I get carried away - I guess I've made my stance clear enough lol.
What annoys me more than anything, aside from the gross inflation of the occasion's importance is that the government have used it to quietly propose new regulations to force new money-saving measures in the NHS. Wankers. Snide little wankers.

The one that really does my head in is Cambodia, which is the world's only communist country with a reigning monarch. Figure that one out.
