The question of whether U2 "failed" or succeeded at Glastonbury should certainly not hinge on (what you call) a merely rearranged setlist, but rather HOW the songs were played, the little interactions with the crowd and between the bandmates themselves--the overall AURA/FEEL of the show and how the band came across.

I think it's a little glib that you think U2 failed by going with that setlist (which you have to admit, despite however uncreative it may have seemed to you, simply worked to get the crowd going). It maybe a little easier to swallow if you had said you wished there were more surprises, but to say U2 "failed glastonbury" because of that...man, I think you missed the whole point.

fair enough, and no i didnt miss the point. it was an awesome show. i just feel let down, maybe that comes from following every setlist. its no doubt they were on fire, but i still somehow feel let down. i stand by they failed glastonbury.

guess i just expect more. im not looking for a fight, i just feel let down. i suppose i want u2 to be something more

not spoiling for a fight, but this was utter disappointment flat out. big fucking deal they rearraged the setlist and ended with ooc. wow. im satisfied.

    Okay

Edit: So, you're "horribly disappointed" yet think it was an "awesome show"? You were "let down" but thought the band was "on fire"? Am I missing something here??

Edit #2: Also, can I just say that who fucking cares WHAT the band played/didn't play/rearranged, especially at this type of festival show?? As long as they played the songs well and kicked the audience's ass while doing it, setlist arguments are moot.

I'd like to be diplomatic and say that we'll agree to disagree, etc., but man, you're completely wrong.
The whole rearranging the setlist argument is redundant. Everyone knew roughly what 20 or so songs would make the cut, the only unknown was what order they'd play them.

The real question concerns the performance which sounded and looked excellent to me given the limitations of a festival set up. You can expect what you want from a U2 performance, but they're human and your expectations won't be met for one reason or another (like Anaheim 1 perhaps). But tonight was considerably better than a perfunctory 'decent performance' mark.

I think you're in the minority in considering that it was a 'flat out disappointment'. I think you protest too much. As a U2 fan, I feel bad for you that you couldn't derive any satisfaction from watching that performance tonight.

im horribly disappointed by the anticlimactic nature of the set list. ive got 15 vertigo shows that all had the same selist, and some are great, some aren't. i think my point is some of us were waitng for "something new", something different. i love that they were on fire, i love that they sounded amazing, but ive heard that over more than a few 360 shows and beyond. zootv had PLENTY of standard setlist and some are better than others. maybe i got caught up in the hype for this, maybe i expected too much, but this was just another 360 show really, just in diferent order. guess i expected something different

Add to this list your own set of uncontrollable release of emotions, and you will have the perfect description of what this night was for all of us; the best fans, U2 fans. This was such a win for all of us.

My favotire part of that post is in bold.

nah, i did get a great satisfaction. maybe my original post was too harsh, i'm just disappointed. i have a lot of boots man, i know it changes night to night, i just expected more
  7. What did you expect?
Acrobat + Love Is Blindness + Gloria and then a 17 minutes Bad with 13 snippets?

The band faced a non-U2 fan base, they played for a crowd of people who bought their tickets even before they were announced as headlining act and they rocked the shit out of them.

I'd say they pretty much nailed it

but really? we're all excited by a rearranged but standard setlist?

wow they played the fly. i hadnt heard that one before
wow they played bad oops cant remember that one, is it new?
out of control? holy SHIT i anit heard that before!!!!

holy crap THE SETLIST WAS IN A DIFFERENT ORDER!!!
new arrangement a few new snippets...

it was a great show, lots of energy, but c'mon its not u2 innovating. its nothing special. just another date with a setlist just a little out of order. i'm disappointed.

    they failed glastonbury.

Clearly you've got a point to make, so why don't you just make it instead of these weaksauce insinuations about houses and taxes?
  9. That was as good as they could do, and they did pretty damn well.
  10. I am going to make a prediction that this show may be the U2 fan clun subscription album for the upcoming year?

Also I just want to say that I FREAKING LOVE "Get On Your Boots" and I love that the band hasn't given up on it.

  11. think i made it
