Did that, but the PS3 doesn't recognize the .TS file. Any help there?

OK, my 2 cents for what they're worth.

U2's performance was terrific, but they're beginning to show their age. Bono's voice was a little strained, and although everything worked quite perfectly, I think it would be a bad idea to keep singing songs like Vertigo in 5 years from now, with less and less voice... U2 should reinvent themselves, and make peace with the idea that it is more important to be a cool artist than to be the biggest band in the world. Bowie kept playing until he was 57, and playing new music until then. He had a great band behind, and great backing vocals. Bono has a great band behind, but (almost) only Edge's backing vocals. He shouldn't keep singing songs with such high notes three times per week. Of course, I immensely appreciate his generosity. I'm only saying that it would be good for U2 to invent something new in the near future. A new great album full of great music - with him singing more and shouting less? That'd be terrific, and I know it'll happen. B-sides and rarely played songs? Yes.

Re: Coldplay. I downloaded and watched their performance. Some thoughts:

- Some of the new songs are pretty cool, e.g. Hurts Like Heaven;

- If you take the whole set, it sounded a bit cheesy. The band is fresher and younger than U2, I give you that. And they have some truly great classics. But U2 could fill a whole set with only classics. They can do it now, and they could already do it in 1987. It's no coincidence they've been the biggest band for such a long time!

- A thought occurred to me now for the first time: Jo Whiley and the BBC people were extremely nice to Coldplay, both before and after the show. They were treated as local kids. And they are. By contrast, U2 are Irish. Not English. Not British. I thought for one second: had they been English instead, wouldn't they be National Heroes by this time? They still have to fight so hard to keep their reputation up, especially among journalists. Could the fact that they are neither British nor American partly account for this? Just a thought.

EDIT: though it's true the BBC very actively promoted NLOTH.

Just to re-iterate one point on Coldplay; Glastonbury is a 'home show' for them and always will be. They are popular with the regular festival goers as they have played there throughout their career and have been best freinds with Eavis for more than a decade - jeez they were rehearsing on the farm as early as last Monday.

This shouldn't get into a U2 v Coldplay debate. Our band went there and done what we hoped they would - that should be more than enough for everyone.

and Coldplay would not have been " Coldplay" if they hadn't been English

Yes, let's not enter into (yet) a(nother) U2/Coldplay debate... though it is also hard not to! This year they were playing at the same festival and... Bono almost ended the U2 performance with a Coldplay song!

Couldn't possibly agree more - i've been thinking/saying this for ages!

i do sometimes wonder how much they are being pushed to constantly be the 'biggest' by mcguinness though....

The journo who made the headline " u2 the sweetest thing at glastonbury" needs to be shot. I just finished watching it (finally) and was expecting em to play it haha

Don't think we can put that on McGuinness. He's not the devil. He does his job.

But we agree. U2 aren't the biggest band in the world anymore. And it's ok. They just need to come to terms with it.

how many bands in the world in these times can make a tour like 360 for example? (not only in terms of stage)
a single day, however important, in an english spot doesn't prove anything

People come see them because of their past work. Of course they're still huge, but as far as being relevant to new mainstream audiences and all that bullshit, it's just less and less the case. I'm not dissing them, it's just natural and happened to all bands. I just wish they would grow old gracefully and do whatever they want to do musically. I can't see that happening anytime soon though.
