1. Oh an hour's cool. How you been?
  2. Decent. Only thing I have to complain about is my damn back, don't know why I have the random knots and aches in it that I do. Probably muscle problems or whatnot that I'm too lazy to get fixed, so oh well.

My band's heading into our show week..."headlining" a little festival we've actually organized on Wednesday night, and a huge slot at a popular bar on Saturday.

How are things down under, Drew?
  3. Ouch. You're not still growing are you?

You have a band - that's way cool, good luck for those shows. If I'm ever over there I'll definitely pop over for a show or four. Things aren't bad here apart from a cat we had to put down on Saturday or Sunday, I think it was (only had him a year, a stray one we found and cleaned him up - had cancer and internal bleeding - sad, you get attached after such a small amount of time) and bought a new phone, which I'm enjoying very much - finding all kinds of cool stuff for it.
  4. New phones will always keep you busy; got my HTC Evo 4 months ago and I'm still playing with it. Sorry to hear about the cat...I know exactly what you mean. My dog probably doesn't have more than a few years left in her; we've had her for an eternity, feels like she's part of the family. So that time will come.

The shows will be fun- thanks for the best wishes. The songs are easy enough, the problem is coordinating all of them. We've got something like a 40 song setlist for the bar show, since we have such a long slot, so we learned mostly 4 chord crowd-pleasers that everyone knows...it's just tough when you've got 40 songs written by other people, and you've got to remember every little nook and cranny in them to not knock the rest of the band off track. Gonna be a great time though. If U2 pops up it'll either be in the form of "The Fly" or an acoustic version of "With or Without You" so we'll see.
  5. Ah yeah - just trying to find a new 'launcher' for it. I already modded my iPod to as far as I can possibly do, so I figured Android would be next. Yeah, it's sad when a dog, cat, whatever, passes because you really feel like they're family. Home every night, asleep by 3am....

Absolute good luck for that show. I think you'll do well given from reading bits and pieces about your playing on here - you got any videos or audio to see or hear? I'd be absolutely confused if I had to do 40 songs and remember each and every single one - I have enough trouble remembering bends and patterns and holes on harmonica!!!!
  6. Unfortunately no videos yet...I had my brother show up to one of our venue-rehearsals last week (for the fest, we've got an agreement with one of the churches in the community- there's a large activity center that the church owns, separate building, that they've let us set up complete stage, concert lighting, back-projected screens, etc. Rather cool- just too damn loud and boomy), and he took some video, but I was stupid and accidentally deleted it while prepping my camera for my U2 show last week. There will certainly be video from the show though- hopefully it won't be too echo-y and boomy so that you can't hear it.

So you play the harmonica? I've always wanted to be like Bono and whip it out of my sleeve at the end of a song. Do you do any singing as well? You could do your own acoustic sets at open mic nights, with Springsteen, Dylan, and U2 songs!
  7. Ah you gotta get some videos up when you can, would be great to see! Sounds like a great venue, shame about the sound though. How was the U2 show by the way - I remember you saying you were gonna go to one and never got to ask you how that was.

I do play the harmonica, after seeing Steven Tyler playing it and I thought ''I gotta learn me that!!!''. I do sing as well, not very good but I try. I'd love to do an open-mic night - I actually got invited to one but not sure I could honestly sing or even play in front of that many people.
  8. The U2 show was amazing beyond words...I mean, you've seen the setlists...imagine how it must feel to witness, and multiply that by 1000. It was my first GA experience, and I don't know if I could ever go back to seats. Incredible. Out of Control was...well, out of control

I got fairly drunk one night at a place that did an open mic night and got talked into doing a few songs with the guy who hosts the night's guitar...I ended up playing/singing "Times Like These" (Foo Fighters), "Landslide" (Fleetwood Mac/Smashing Pumpkins), "Dancing in the Dark" (Bruce Springsteen), and "All I Want is You". Guess the booze did the trick.
  9. I remember how excited I was when Larry was less than half a metre away from me. That was exciting. And seeing Adam standing there in front of where I was for like 30 seconds - that was unbelievable. It just shows what running into the stadium even when it's wet as all fuck can get you (and suffering through Jay-Z). I've never seen a band up so close and they all looked so damn awesome. I can't believe you got Out Of Control either. Any other songs surprise you?

I would never go seats for any show unless that was the absolute only option (left or otherwise). Damien Leith, a beautiful Irish singer-songwriter has only seats at his show (he's popular with the older demographic - where I feel most comfortable with) and Meat Loaf is apparently all seated. When something like Song of Madness or Life Is A Lemon comes on, nobody's gonna be able to stay seated. I think the only other show that was seated was Alice Cooper. Ha, when School's Out started you couldn't keep anyone seated. Weird Al was seated too, that was a fantastic show, probably one of the best I've ever been to. NuGnR was standing - thankfully.

That would have been something to see.
  10. Well they closed with One Tree Hill, so yeah

I LOVE Life is a Lemon. Even the shows I've been to that were all seated, people stood for. Stood on my chair the first time I saw Kings of Leon, and my first concert ever was Bon Jovi in 2005, all seated, but we were 23 rows from the stage so we were standing along with the entire floor too
  11. WHAAAATTTTTT? You got One Tree Hill - my third-favourite U2 song of all time??? Noooooooo!!!!

LIAL is just so damn good, and the 'defective' section gets me every time. But there's some great stuff after Bat 2 as well, but not as cohesive. Couldn't Have Said It Better, Welcome To The Neighbourhood, Bat 3 (that pisses me off) and the one after that have some great stuff thrown in with some absolute mediocrity.

Were Bon Jovi good? From what I've seen they put on a hell of a show but video doesn't capture it so well.
  12. They were literally mind blowing, though it was my first concert EVER so I was biased I'm sure. They just tore the roof off the fuckin' place.

And yeah, OTH wasn't even on the setlist...and they WEREN'T going to play Moment of Surrender either. Bono got through introducing Moment of Surrender, and then said something about not being able to play it for us, and then after a few minutes he said "Ah, we'll play it anyway". And then Edge yelled something to Dallas in the underworld after MOS, and he brought out the guitar for OTH, and they figured it out on the spot. Really magical. Edge messed up the solo quite a bit, but they haven't touched the song since what, February or so? It was insanely cool to see.

I hated Hang Cool Teddy Bear, which is the only thing I've listened to post-Bat2. Loved Bat and Bat 2. Always wanted to check out Neighbourhood- they have it at my library for rent. Maybe I should rip it.

Nice talking to you Drew but I've got to head out- big day planned, taking my girlfriend to lunch/shopping, mini-rehearsal with our bass player, and then heading to a bar tonight with some people. Stay classy, and have a great day! Thanks for the great conversation
