    Agree with you completely.

    They don't play their huge hits because htey only care about the casual fans, they play them because they are their best songs. Like it or not, even though they're hte songs most people now, many of them are some of U2's greatest songs. And honestly, I was surrounded by super-fans at the Toronto show, and as happy as we all were to sing along to The Fly, Zooropa, Scarlet, and Hold Me Thrill Me, we all went just as nuts for Beautiful Day, Vertigo, and Pride.


  5. And honestly, he's not the first I've heard say that. Watching the news reels after the Montreal shows and the Toronto show, a few concert-goers said the same thing. They said "there was no emotion, and the stage over-powered what wasn't even that great music".

    Trust me, I disagree, and yelled at the TV when hearing that, I'm just pointing out he's not the only on to say it. No idea what they mean by no emotion, I was "feeling" entire shows, as were people around me.

    I don't like many of them... I actually dislike almost every song on U218.

    As much as I do love their catalogue of songs that are lesser known, and it's true that most of their gems are those lesser known tunes, I still enjoy Beautiful Day, City Of Blinding Lights, Streets, I Will Follow, I Still Haven't Found, Pride, WIth Or Without You, Mysterious Ways, SBS, One, and Desire, just as much,

    I would be much happier to hear Trying To Throw Your Arms than I would Mysterious Ways, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy MW. I accept the fact that they're going to play MW over Arms, and I enjoy it. If you really check every U2 show and expect to hear rarities and get annoyed everytime you get a setlist full of hits, you'll be unhappy for a long time my friend! U2 are about pleasing everyone, which is why they have a huge set of hits and which is why they throw in Zooropa, The Fly, Out Of Control, One Tree Hill, and so on, into the set. I think it's safe to say most fans (excluding yourself) can enjoy the hits just as much as they enjoy the lesser knowns, which is why U2 picks their set the way they do.

    Personally I have no problem with it, and I'm not trying to start a fight. More less just trying to explain where I'm coming from. But if U2 played a tour full of songs that aren't hits, but rather songs that the hardcore fans have to come know and love, I'd be right up front row with you for every show. Believe me.

    Yep.
    Streets and MW are the only two I wouldn't skip, haha. MW is one of my favorites, actually.

    I consider Popmart to be the absolute best song selections. Mofo, gone, last night, bullet, please, Discotheque, velvet dress, batman, dead man.... the list goes on.

    I'd just like it if they played more of their hard-rocking songs instead of mainly radio hits.

    Great post. Agree with everything you said. Especially in stadiums filled with 50-100,000 fans you have to play well known songs. You don't sell tickets tons stadium show by playing six songs off Passengers. In an arena show or theatre id be more likely to.complain about a lack of rarities but I feel the core of 360 had been WELL established by now. Enjoy the taste that they give the hardcore fans. If you're expecting a ton of rare songs and the set to be torn down and built anew every night those expectations are sadly misplaced in U2.

    I think MLK or Mothers Of The Disappeared would fit much better than Scarlet. For one, both of the songs are far more beautiful and meaningful AND they both act as a really good lead-in for Walk On.



    Also, I'm getting a bit bored with the whole "U2 should play more Pop songs" rhetoric. Seriously.
    Pop was a decent album with a few winners, but not many. I honestly think Discotheque, Mofo, Staring At The Sun, and Please were the strongest songs on the album and of those 4, I only think Staring At The Sun and Please would work well at this point. Mofo comes on strong, but doesn't fit the band's current mood, seeing how they moved past self-deprecation and satire. Discotheque could easily replace Crazy Tonight, but I'm actually glad it's only showed up as a snippet instead.
