  1. My previous post was made before Sergio's last post.

    Most things you said are right: I'm not 'loving' them. When it comes to U2, I can't say anything really objective, but I think I still can be objective about Coldplay.

    Ofcourse, there are much bands around, but everybody seems to love Coldplay. Check iTunes: this week all Coldplay albums were charting in the iTunes Top 20. Even my grandmother knows about Mylo Xyloto, but nobody told her. It's save to say everybody at least 'knows' about Coldplay. Moreover, Coldplay has a pretty unique sound and is reinventing itself every album, which can't be said about most bands you stated in your second alinea.

    Coldplay still has to prove they are not only a 'promising band'. They still have to do something spectacular. Therefore I am wrong.

    That says it all.

    I'm not saying you're wrong now AND you'll be wrong until the end of times... I'm just saying that comparing them to The Fab Four right NOW is a bit bold, a bit over the top.
  4. Got Mylo Xyloto yesterday, need to give it a good few more listens but first impressions are, to be honest, a bit underwhelmed. Decent, but just doesn't get grab me by the short'n'curlies. The ones they played live before the release are the best, but other than I didn't think 'wow'. Will have to see if it's a grower or a shower, as they say.

    Nah I didn't have a chance of making in the end, tickets went on sale during the week before when I was in London (currently working in Covent Garden) and there were a load of restrictions about purchasing AND the gig was a weeknight, so again, no chance of making it. Knew a few guys and girls who went, so bloody jealous, but hey I saw them at Glasto so am not too downhearted!

    My favorite song before the release of album was 'Hurts Like Heaven'. I used to listen to it 20 times a day on YouTube. And on the album...it sounds so claustrophobic and overproduced.


    And I don't even want to comment on The Beatles / Coldplay comparison. Coldplay are a great band, but The Beatles were revolutional.
  6. After ten days of intense listening, I personnally still love the album. I first disliked Hurts Like Heaven in its studio form, but I got used to it and it's actually great. Paradise has become one of my Coldplay favorites, which wasn't at all until I got the album. The ballads are great, especially Up With the Birds.

    About that Beatles/Coldplay debate, I can understand Fabian's point of view. I don't know if Coldplay are as revolutional as the Beatles were (I mean I'm sure they're not), but still, they are the 00's band, like the Beatles were on the 60's or U2 on the 80's-90's. At least that's what I feel. Consequently they'll leave a mark on people's minds for a long time, and some Coldplay songs (I'm sure as regards VLV, Clocks or Yellow) will remain as the biggest 00's hits ; like some Beatles' songs for the 60's and some U2 songs for the 80's and 90's.
  7. The Beatles invented something. Coldplay's just the biggest form of what they've (The Beatles) invented in today's time. Doesn't mean they're going to be remembered for it.
  8. All Coldplay invented was stealing music from others and inserting it into their track...

    Besides that, I completely disagree with you, Fabian. I'm sorry.

  10. X&Y has been my life lately. Such a struggle between this and Parachutes for least favorite album. Parachutes is an amazing debut, but in terms of songs I can absolutely sink my entire soul into, it comes down to...

    Shiver
    Yellow
    Sparks
    Everything's Not Lost

    whereas with X&Y, I find myself completely encompassed by...

    Square One
    What If?
    Fix You
    A Message
    Low
    Twisted Logic

    The last song is bolded because it speaks SO strongly to me. Maybe that's because I just recognized the beauty in it..."Fix You" is obviously a more powerful song, but I'm sort of "used" to it by now- "Twisted Logic" still sort of comes out of nowhere in my head and I love it. "Talk" and "Speed of Sound" are both huge songs for me too, but much like "Fix You", I'm very used to those as well.
  11. Talk and Speed Of Sound are two of their best songs musically, but they're not as powerful (in meaning) as Fix You or Everything's Not Lost, just to tell two examples from the songs you mentioned.


    I also love Life Is For Living, it's simple and short but sooo meaningful.

    But life is for liiiviiing, we all knooowwww
    And I don't want to live it alooooneeeeeee...

    Do you know I Boom Blaum or something? Also a great short tune.
