1. Ya if you play revisionist history with Oasis by sides from the 90s it really leaves you to wonder what might have been. I'm not sure anyone ever was as hot writing songs as Noel was back then.
  2. As I mentioned a couple of pages back,I was never happy, with the tunes that were selected for Morning Glory. Some Might Say was released in April of 1995.Solid song.Like it alot. But,IMO,since it was released 6 months before Morning Glory,it should have been left off as an independent single, like Whatever.Hey Now is a solid b side.Acquiesce,Swamp Song,Talk Tonight and Masterplan, all desereved to be on the album.Step Out is a sloid b side,as is Round Are Way and Rockin Chair.

Here's my version of Morning Glory:

    1) The Swamp Song
    2) Acquiesce
    3) Hello
    4) Roll With It
    5) Wondewall
    6) Dont Look Back In Anger

    7) Cast No Shadow
    8) Talk Tonight
    9) She's Electric
    10) Morning Glory
    11) The Masterplan
    12) Champagne Supernova

I thought of using Hello as the lead song, but the band on the Morning Glory tour, opened with Swamp Song > Acquiesce on most nights.Hello was played 3rd and even 4th in the sets.

I have had this playlist on my iPod for years.Try it out.......

  3. I see what our are saying but Some Might Say is my favourite track off WTSMG so I would have a hard time omitting it. To be honest, I had never heard it until I bought the album, so that increases my own personal case for leaving it on.

    For me:
    Swamp Song
    Hello
    Roll with It
    Wonderwall
    Don't Look Back in Anger
    Some Might Say
    Acquiesce
    She's Electric
    Cast No Shadow
    Morning Glory
    Champagne Supernova
    The Masterplan
  4. True.Well,it was the bands first #1 in England,so it was nothing new to them,or me back then.Maybe my version can be the UK's track listing, and your version is the US copy.Kinda like how the Beatles releases were different in the UK and the US....LOL
  5. Nice comparison...very historical...I like the UK version of the Beatles albums better so that doesn't bold well for me. I do like the Rolling Stones' US version of [n]Between the Buttons[/i] as it includes "Ruby Tuesday" and "Let's Spend the Night Together" - the UK version does not.
  6. I never agreed with Lennon's feelings about singles. He said singles didnt belong on albums,or something like that. The Beatles would release a single, the same day as an album, and LEAVE that single off the album.Thats absurd to me.Hey Jude and Revolution, both fit on my version of the White Album perfectly, and should have been held back, and released as seperate singles from that great album.I hated the fact We Can Work It Out and Day Tripper were left off Rubber Soul.I Feel Fine off Beatles For Sale.I Want To Hold Your Hand being left off With the Beatles is ridiculous..George Martin to this day, say's his biggest mistake was allowing Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane to be released before Pepper.

The difference with Oasis, they were so massive in England.I dont think I ever heard Some Might Say on the radio here.Only the obvious 3 or 4 hits for the first 2 albums.

Whatever could have even been included on the US version of Morning Glory. Most American's would not have known it was an independent single from the end of 1994.
  7. I am embarrassed to admit that I never even heard of "Whatever" until I go the Masterplan and read the liner notes. It included its b-sides but not hte actual a-side. The hunt for it then began. Mind you, this is before itunes and napster so it wasn't as easy as one might think.
  8. True.Living in Manhattan my whole life,I have had the advantage of having many great record shops in this city.In the early 80's,I used to go with friends after school to Greenwich Villiage, and look for the latest Jam singles.Same went for U2 and so on.

Since 1994,I would grab each and every single by Oasis. So Some Might Say and Whatever were old hat to me.But,Im deff in the minority on that.

I see your point for "regular" albums. However, I felt that U2 should have taken this route when it came to their 18 Singles release. "Saints" and "Windows in the Skies" should NOT have taken up two spots on it (should have included something like "The Fly" and ....take your pick) and those two tracks could have been released as an accompanying double a-side single.

I love Manhattan (saw Oasis there) and so does Noel, I presume (Standing on the Shoulder of Giants album sleeve).
  11. Interestingly to the point being discussed here, I consider myself a huge Oasis fan and of the 4-500 studio and live songs I have from them the studio version of Whatever is not one of them even though it's one of my favorite tracks. Another great song that they somewhat underutilized in my opinion

Oasis (at least Noel) always played great here.Unlike Noel,Liam,at times, seemed to care less at a few of the shows here, in NYC.Liam would just stare,or sit down by the drums and do nothing during a few of the songs.I know that was his act,or thing, but it came off as him being uninterested.

Noel said he knew he was goin to have to play 2 nights in NYC.Past shows here were always fantastic, even with Liam's attitude.I first saw Oasis on July 21st,1994.The band played a small club/bar called the Wetlands.I live about 8 blocks from that location,in TriBeCa.(Sadly, that place is long gone).I had heard Supersonic a few times, and a friend said they were really good.Place wasnt even close to half full. They played maybe 12 songs. They sounded very good.I loved Live Forever, and they played an amazing version of Iam The Walrus. After that gig,I was hooked.Im not even sure how many times Ive seen Oasis, but its alot.I saw them twice in Europe in 2000,and in London 2002 and 2005.

I just hope in the spring,he (NOEL) comes back here.
