Well, I don't think Bono is involved with this. All the songs already excist, just produce the discs and develop promotion material.

Zoo Sydney was a rip off?

No no absolutey it was NOT. But it was a way to speak my mind. Stop releasing known stuff (good or not) and put your efforts on the developing of new material.

we needed our VHS stuff modernised. A special edition Rattle and Hum and complete Red Rocks won't go amiss. Then they'l have nothing else to re-release

that's exactly my point it was on 80-90 so why have it on 90-00?

so why not have the saints are coming and window in the skies on u218 and best of 2000 - 2010

because I've worked with record labels and they like to have songs that fit the entire record and 'cohere' to each other and those wouldnt fit.....

can't agree with that. Compilations are compilations. They don't have to be structured like an album. I'd bet that if there is to be 2000-2010 best of then Saints or Windows will be on it
  7. Missing in action!

Albeiit iTunes has all of this:

    early stuff like
    U23, Another Day, A Celebration...
    +
Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses [Temple Bar]
Last Night On Earth [Single Mix]
    Please [Single Version]
If God Will Send His Angels [Single Mix]
    Walk On [Single Version]
All Because Of You [Single Version]
Original Of The Species [Single Version]

Personally I'm not interested in another best of as U218 was too obvious and the dbl CD version of the 90-00 set was rather poor really give the actual "b sides" like Salome, Always, Satellite Of Love, Slow Dancing, LWTSH and Holy Joe etc that got ignored for the the various remixes of DD, HIAWG and Lemon... that and the missing singles above...

the best ofs aren't for the benefit of us dedicated fans. They are more for the casual U2 fan. I think Pink Floyd are great but i've only got their greatest hits. The same with many other bands for me so i'm sure theres many that are like that with U2

Yeah, but I think you get more if you buy an album of a band you are not a great fan than if you get a best of...Anyway, that's just me, I rarely listen to a band that I don't know a lot about.
  12. That's what's so extraordinary about this band is their pro-album stance in the music industry.

They had to keep an eye out for polished singles of course (ahem-Lilywhite) but it was the album as a whole that was always really important. Unforgettable Fire is good proof of that as if you listen to the whole album from beginning to end, it has a way of making you look over your shoulder; ie. a very haunted, very spiritual journey ("It's a musical journey").

Joshua Tree too as it begins first with a wide-eyed optimistic search that slowly sinks deeper and deeper into despair until the restorative final track. And i won't even start with Achtung Baby's flash fireworks and rollercoaster trainwrecks. The tracklisting plays a crucial part in piecing songs together.

What I mean to say is the albums as a whole were much more the sum of the parts and each song wasn't just about standing on its own feet but also about contributing something to the record it would be a part of. In that way, the song on the best of's wouldn't have the same magic and 'purpose' as it did on the album. I mean, SIAMYCGOO fits so comfortably between elevation and beautiful day and EBTTRT just works after Zoo Station.

Though 80-90's managed to capture beautifully the era and even some of the magic of the albums due to a fantastic taste in tracklisting, this band is not a greatest hits band. Leave that to single seeking, replacable, temp-fame pop stars. This one's in it for the music. So no thanks, you can keep your 00-10 or whatever best of coming up and just work on the albums and we fans will just continue making our own, much better arranged, best of's

    Amen

(***oh and though i thought 90-00's tracklisting was bad, U218 was the most garbage best hits collection ever JUST because of the atrocious tracklisting. I mean Sweetest Thing followed by Sunday Bloody Sunday?! Are you f*cking serious?!)
