1. Very true Matt.Given To Fly is a PJ Classic..I love it..and I thought it was good when I first heard the studio version in '98....but live ?..forget it...a monster of a tune...I love when Ed goes all out singing it.....
  2. This clip is a bit weak (if you're going to do a statistical analysis, DO a statistical analysis - not this "fluff") but it still caught my attention:

  3. ...and this Unthought Known video is pretty cool:

  4. As I prepare to listen to some 2009 shows in the near future, are there any mandatory listens (i.e., Ed-Man) gigs aside from the four in LA and the four in Philly?

I have Toronto and Vancouver (obviously) and Ed, you had mentioned a couple in Australia. I suppose Seattle and maybe even Chicago shouldn't be overlooked. What about London?

I would like to enjoy a bunch - but maybe not ALL of them at this time.
  5. London,Ontario 09.12.05 The Encores

    Encore 1

A great version of Nothing As It Seems kicks off the acoustic, seated set.Keeper version.Mike and Ed are spot on.Off He Goes is perfect, another great version, but I prefer Halifax, with Ed going off about needing another Keiths Ale.Hard To Imagine is also perfect, and the best version from this tour.Keeper.A great version of Alive closes.

    Encore 2

Ed brought a young girl onstage during Alive, and after returning for the second encores,he tells the crowd "we're just gonna play one more song, cause Melissa has school tomorrow".....after some loud booing from the crowd,he couldnt resist, adding "Alright Melissa, fuck school, you're staying with us.....Oh,I just said fuck.I said it again, fuck !!!"..I have to admit, that must have been hysterical live.

An intense version of Go starts the second encore. Grievance follows.I dont like it in this spot at all.IMHO,only classics should be played during the second encore.Crowd start chanting for Stone to sing a tune "Let Stone sing"...Ed loves it...and says "No.He shant never sing!!"....a brief improv follows..very funny moment..Stone finally takes to the mic and says "I really just want to dance"....very loose feel..band having alot of fun....this is Pearl Jam at their best....

Solid versions of Small Town and SOLAT follow.

The band play the rare No Code classic Smile. To date,Smile has only been played 58 times since 1996.Solid version,Ed on harmonica.Obvioulsy, this one needs to be dusted off more often.

    RITFW wraps it up.

Solid gig.I really enjoyed this one.Alot of positive energy, jokes, fun with Stone,a breath of fresh air compared to the bitterness of Kitchener.

    4 1/2 stars.

    Standout tunes : Oceans,Glorified G,Black Red Yellow,In My Tree,You Are,NFY,Jeremy,Wishlist,Bleed For Me,NAIS,Off He Goes,Hard To Imagine,Alive,Go and Smile........

IMO,Melbourne,11.20.09 is a MUST.....maybe the BEST gig of '09...Berlin,08.15.09 is very solid, top pre Backspacer release ...Christchurch,New Zealand 11.29.09 is GREAT,San Diego of course 10.09.09.....

The pre Backspacer gigs of '09,are very similar to the 2008 shows....LA and Philly,as you mentioned..are of course mandatory classic gigs....and are the best North American gigs,IMO, way better than Seattle 2009...

I believe, an Australian/New Zealand 2009 Tour mix is in order....since we both blew off the Australian 2003 shows...
  7. ...if a tour omits a gem like "Animal" altogether, I omit it from my required listening list.

    Shame on "you," Australia/Japan 2003.
  8. Australia 2009 looks like a solid leg. Looks like all of Ten was played and most of Vs. Unfortunately, "Nothingman" and "Immortality" were omitted, as was "Wishlist."

I think I'll just listen to a couple of shows for now. In terms of a mix, it'll have to get in line.
  9. Hahaha..the Australia/Japan gigs were good..for some reason,I just never got into them......I made a Japan '03 mix..and then promptly deleted it..lol

I really enjoyed the London, ON gig. Right up there with Ottawa and The Hammer.

Just finishing up Kitchener for a second time.
  11. Matt...look at the setlist for Melbourne if you can...you will flip when you see where Oceans is played....,,
  12. So for 2009, I should get:

    - All four Philly shows
    - All four LA shows
    - San Diego
    - Berlin
    - Melbourne

I should wait on the two Seattle shows.

What about London or Chicago x2? Any thoughts on Austin (seems weird they split up the LA shows with that one).
