I hope mine stays strong that long! Those will be incredibly hard to find considering they don't make them anymore.
  4. Hopefully it will. Ive only had one problem with it. It locked up on me once, but that was because I left it in the car on a really cold night. Luckily it started up the day after that.

That's good. It froze on me once, but other than that I've never had a problem with it.

Do you mean the one with the B/W screen? I have that one too and it is carefully stored in a safe with all my songs backed up onto it. Never gave me any trouble.

I think the guys in this thread are feeling the problems are with the newest iPods, specifically Gerard's new Classic. The older iPods seemed to be made of sterner stuff.

Mind you, I did eventually get the new iPod Touch (very nice gift from my wife when I moved up to the Lakes ) and have (*touches wood) had no problems with it. It's amazing.

I do have one thing on my Nano (2nd Gen) - some songs will just suddenly skip. They play fine in iTunes and did on my old video iPod too. Anyone any ideas?

Yeah thats the one. Its classic, I like it. Unfortunately no ideas on the Nano. Never even used one of those. My wife has the first pink Mini and she's never had problems with that one.

Yeh, I tried reset and restore; wiped and reloaded the nano twice.

The guys in the forum you linked to (thanks, btw) suggest re-encoding. Thinking about it most of the songs that skip are one's I burned before I had iTunes, so that may be the issue. I'll give that a try.
