not a PJ news but still very juicy .. for me at least hehe
This is massive news. Layne Staley is said to have worked on solo material at home from 1995-2002.

Grassroots, a Seattle-centric film from director Stephen Gyllenhaal, will feature two never-before-heard songs from deceased Alice in Chains frontman Layne Staley. The film stars Jason Biggs as an alt-weekly music critic who suddenly decides to campaign for a highly competitive spot on the Seattle City Council.
Layne Staley passed away in 2002 after a long battle with drug addiction. He formed the iconic metal grunge group in Seattle back in 1987. Grassroots will be out June 22.

LOL...and a Dave Matthews Band topic..lol...
I cant believe the Manchester and IOW Festival is next week...this month has flown by...my friend Chris and his family have been here,in NYC at my place, since May 31.We have had some run of events.Radiohead,Disney Cruise,DMB at Jones 2 nights (one of the gigs,N1, was in a monsoon).I have been taking them all around Manhattan. We did Ellis Island and the Statue Of Liberty..I have to say,if any of you vist NYC,that is a must see attraction.I looked up the names of both my grandmothers, who came over from Ireland. They have all the immigrants names on walls outside, with the Statue Of Liberty in the background.Pretty powerful IMO.
We all went to the Empire State Building yesterday. Its great having friends from another country, and having them stay with you.You get to relive, and go to "tourist attractions" that you really wouldnt bother to go see.
I cant remember the last time I went up there. It was great to experience that again. His kids were in shock at how high we were. His son looked down, from the outside observation deck, and said "Bloody hell.".classic.lol
Last night I busted out the Toronto N1,09.11.11 show.Played it on the deck.I havent listened to that gig in a while. That is just an EPIC gig IMO.Right up there with MSG N2 05.21.10.
Maybe we should debate over which show is more EPIC.....Toronto N1 2011....or MSG N2 2010.....
Hahahaha....I really feel its a great gig.I think the band made a slight mistake releasing that gig for free. And finally put it up for sale months later. ..
If you had to pick one, what gig ?....My NYC gig.?..or your Toronto gig ?....I think we both know our biased answers....lol...I think Ronnie should decide......
I really need to listen to that N2 2010 MSG gig again. I listened to it four or five times earlier this year and thought it was an amazing performance. I can understand why you say that it has the best ever version of "Better Man" - such high-paced intensity in that one.
yeah that is the concert .. that video was passed on 10c during the countdown to the PJ20 weekend
easy to say no pressure Matt hehehe
Ed you know i have a deep fondness for MSG (already said time ago my dream is to attend a show there) .. that is PJ, U2 or Bruce (i was listening to "The River Show" 8 nov 2009 right this afternoon hehe) ..
and that N2 2010 is for sure one of the best performed there by whoever with the crazy crowd i love.
i have a dvd too of that night
so my choice is clear sorry Matt hehe
however, and i'm not saying just for rebalancing , Toronto 11 N1 is a great one too by both the band and the audience (was impressed first time i listened to it) ... very very high in the ranking of the latest years since lets say 2006
