    I doubt it will be released exclusively as an application. Given the technology of the day, it wouldn't cost much more to release it in that form whereas before there really wasn't a market to release things in that form. But even still, all those digital formats are ages away from making physical copies obsolete, so you'll still be able to get your CD.

    It IS annoying, but he has been talking about it He even talked about it before NLOTH, remember that digital whatever that he said their new album would be? We spent weeks debating what it could be :-|

    It could be anything. A few bands have apps available. Bon Jovi have/had one to supplement their previous tour. It had a music player for purchased songs, a phot o library, news etc. Black Eyed Peas have an app for an interactive video single. I also read that Lady GaGa, All American Rejects, Pussycats Dolls and more also have an app.

    Essentially the content is the same, tailored to each artist. Hopefully U2 will create something along the lines of Having videos uploaded from the tour, photos, news, ability to import your U2 library into the app for a more interactive listening experience and videos of the band, messages from them. Then use it to deliver the new album.
