The 2000's were pretty dull in terms of real progression but I think we have a lot to look forward to as time moves on. I think each of those bands I mentioned are only going to get better from here, Coldplay because they just keep getting better (IMO) and Muse becuase they've been getting worse and now it's time for a resurgence

Charlie Brown is the greatest song Coldplay has ever created. Anybody who thinks otherwise should be banned.*

Music is currently at this stage where people are starting to get bored of the generic chart shit that we hear these days and getting fond of newer and popular rock bands - which is very good. But it's kind of 50/50 at the moment and it's only something I noticed just recently.
I can't see Coldplay getting any better or bigger to be honest. I know it's your opinion, Alex, but personally I don't think they've gotten any better since Viva la Vida. If anything, they got a little worse but upped the live atmosphere hugely - another thing that impresses me. Viva la Vida was an outstanding work of art but I think they out done themselves for Mylo Xyloto. Even though it was a pretty good album, it had its flaws and got mixed reviews.
I also wouldn't necessarily say that Muse are getting worse. The Resistance was dreadful in Muse standards but The 2nd Law was a return to form. I suppose, it is probably your opinion of that.
I think with the bands you mentioned at the start, only one of them are a band that we should look forward to: Foster the People. Although Torches could be an one-album wonder - a bit like The Vaccines or Two Door Cinema Club. As much as I hate Mark Foster, I sincerely hope not. They have promise - live and studio.
