1. Bono's lyrics were definitely the weak point of this album. Just below par compared to nearly all other albums they put out.
  2. I agree 100% about the lyrics. Look at Kite,Walk On,Peace on Earth,Stuck,Sometimes You Cant Make It On Your Own,Original of the Species and Yaweh off the last 2 albums.

Nothing lyrically on No Line comes even remotely close to these songs.
  3. Cedars does imo, as does WaS

  4. Agreed, Edge is perfect in Cedars, Fez, Snow and UC. But I secretly hope he takes center stage next album a la Achtung. And yes, I have a hard time believing Bono could write something deep and meaningful without being provoked. On Bomb and Behind his father was dying and passed and that sparked some of the most beautiful lyrics ever. I don't know if he has anything that could get him to such a place anymore (without something awful happening), I hope Dangermouse inspires him to cut with the "vague" lyrics LOL
  5. All I have to do is bring up Disappearing Act again lyric-wise

but I'm running down the road like loose electricity as the band in my head is playing a striptease
Coming from a long line of traveling sales people on my mother`s side, I wasn`t gonna buy just anyone`s cockatoo, so why would I invite a complete stranger into my home?

Love some of the songs that those lyrics come from, but to me, they are trash

I think you are taking them out of context which is unfair; I don't think the lyrics are that bad really. And I love the striptease one from "Breathe".
  7. Taken out of context sure, but even in context a lot of them just sound good but don't really have any meaning. What the hell does a band playing a striptease mean? That makes no sense, and if it did it doesn't really mean much, which is what U2's lyrics are known for, meaning something to the listener.

The music in his head sounds sexy or sensual... I agree that it doesn't mean much but it does sound good. To me at least.
  9. This conversation reminds me of that Rolling Stone interview Bono did for RS Podcast's series where he gets asked about each individual album and how he thinks Bomb and Behind are better than JT and AB and he gets pissed off at the fact the whole isn't greater than the sum of its parts. I think that's the case again here where almost everything is close to its right place, but it's slightly off. I'm so curious as to the new album because NLOTH feels like unfinished business a la Rattle and Hum or Pop and we could very well get a classic later this year!
  10. It's actually a quality album. I dig it.
  11. ^ Yep. Still sounds great.
  12. Still pretty meh
