A couple of years ago, if I remember correctly, @U2 called this as the best-ever performance of Bad. At the end of it, Bono sings 'The First Time' before Edge errupts into Bullet The Blue Sky - venomous, but brilliant. @U2 also named this the best performance of Bullet.
They are both phenomenally good performances of the songs. Bad with the violin is something else though.

Would anyone be so kind as to upload just this performance of Bad? I'm still in the Stone Age and just have dial-up, so I try not to download entire bootlegs just for one specific song. Pretty please?

As for the topic, not only does the 1/10/1990 Rotterdam have my favorite performance of Bad, it's my all-time favorite version of any song by any band. Awesome stuff.
  2. Okay, i've already uploaded the London.93's Bad for you, I hope you like it!!
I completely agree with you, the Rotterdam's concert is one of the best U2 shows ever!

    Here is the Bad's link: http://download.yousendit.com/A3042F627A1039C5 > U2 - 1993-08-12 - London - 17 - Bad - The First Time.mp3
    Enjoy!!
  3. Thank you so much! This wasn't what I was expecting at all (the sound effects on the violin are neat; I've never heard one sound like that before), but it's really beautiful.
  4. It's really beautiful.
  5. without even reading the posts regaurding it, i stubled across the version of bad on the last night of the lovetown tour. this has to be the most incredible version of bad ive ever heard, the final riff at the end made me do everything short of crap my pants.
  6. i would have to say that these are my three favourites....

    1. Live on Ratlle and Hum, i think that is how Bad should be played at every concert, especially with the Stones tribute of "Sympathy for the Devil" and "Ruby Tuesday" put in
    2. Live Boston DVD - a perfect modern interpretation of the song, where the ending is jsut right, and 40 is added perfectly
    3. Dortmund 1984 - PERFECT! Bono's voice is outstanding...need i say more?

Good to see so many people like "Bad!" i worship that song, i think it is clearly their best ever work, as it captures everything about them musically. to Bad
  7. The version of Rattle and Hum.
Bologna 1985-02-05 and Chicago 1985-03-21 of my first bootlegs at the end of the 80
  8. I think the most powerfull version of bad was in arnhem in holland .
    on 31-7-2001.
There is a great version of norwegian wood of the beatles in it .
I was at this show and bono took a little girl out of the audience
set her on his neck and then go futher singing with instead of" i'm wide awake''
he sings "she 's wide awake !" and than starts singing norwegian wood.
than he(Bono) took her father onstage to put his little girl back in to the audience but ..
bono takes the little girl out again and starts running with her around the heart and sings
    ''she's wide awake'' again .
everytime when i heard this version it gave me goosbumbs!!!!!

That's indeed a great version! The girl and the father on stage, awesome version of Bad.
  10. I don't really like Bad past Zoo TV, I think Bono's voice fucks up the song, he is not able to sing it decently anymore. Maybe those Bad have emotion or highlights, but there's no comparation possible with, for example, Rotterdam '90, London '93 or Chicago '85. Screw the 2001 versions.
  11. Wide Awake In America version or Rattle and Hum one

Well, I very much like some 1992 versions of bad (NY 20-3, for instance, Dublin 28-8-93 seems also very good to me...). The Saitama one, also, isn't that ... bad :-)

But I agree that Bono's voice has changed a lot... That was bound to happen, though... rock singers simply destroy their own voice as they sing... it's not only a question of age. Though Bono's voice is still great, I think. His voice in the last 2006 shows was the best since Zoo TV. Though is not as powerful and brilliant anymore...

Hope U2 can renew themselves in the future... the last tour was great, but the last leg was a sort of live best of, only a few new songs were played at each show.

My hunch is that it will take a while before we'll see them again. With the Vertigo Tour they reached the highest level of success after Zoo TV, it will be very difficult to repeat that...

Hope Bono will sing less kill-voice songs in the future (Vertigo was one, for instance --- greate song, but too-voice damaging I'd say... Bono wasn't completely at ease with it since the very beginning... think about the "I can't stand the beat/I'm asking for the cheque bit"... He couldn't sing in tempo, especially in the last performances, because it was too high). Perhaps they could sing some songs in a lower tonality, like they did with Sunday Bloody Sunday and Pride since 2001.
