1. Happy 46th birthday Mr Gallagher

(the only Gallagher to whom I'd wish "happy something" haha)
  2. Beady Eye album leaked! I only listened to some of the songs. Soul Love is kind of cool
  3. Beady eye need a songwriter, not just a producer!

  4. Lol, that wink suggests something more. I'm intrigued now, don't ruin it!
  5. SPOILER ALERT!!

If you don't want to know anything about the new Beady Eye album before June 10, then stop reading now.

I listened to the whole thing - terrible quality leak; many of the songs were recorded on the phone. But that's life.

    Good news.

The heart is there, and the voice is there too (on record). There's at least 4 good songs, maybe 5 or even 6. No real duds (but no stellar singles either). Some nice melodies. A couple of good rockers. The album feels like a grower. The songs sound very different from the former album. This isn't Oasis, nor is it Beady Eye 2011 (thanks God).

To be sure, there's no Rock n roll star, Champagne Supernova, Shock of the Lightning, or even God Thinks I'm Abel, on this record. It'll always be hard to compete with such a glorious past. But they're competing, and the result is worth the effort overall.

    Not so good news.

One ballad too many, as somebody already said on the web.

One can feel a really good producer has done a great job here - but what's Beady Eye before production? One wonders. Eno and Lanois have done magnificent work with U2. But there's definitely a band there before production. Ditto for Oasis (no production). Here there are some really talented musicians - I thought the acoustic set played on a French radio last week was excellent, with Liam in top vocal form. But one really wonders whether the band actually has enough good musical ideas, without Noel, and without a talented producer such as Sitek.

Voice is good to really good both on record and in the recent live acoustic sets. But it was as bad as it gets on Jools Holland live yesterday. No further comment: the video, widely available on the BBC and on youtube, speaks for itself.
  6. Liams voice is as inconsistent as his personality.
  7. They played a song on Jools Holland last night that was very dull. Liam gave an atrocious interview as well. The man is a knob.
  8. I finally got my hands on the real thing -- the link was provided on a comment on Liam's facebook page!

Production did miracles. Some nice songs. 'Soul Love' and 'Shine a Light' don't quite make you long for the Bowie and Stones songs with the same name. In sum, this is way better then Different Gear Still Speeding. A good album. You keep listening to it. Songs are not as immediate and predictable as one might have feared. Still, it's the same band. Some songs may still be a little naive. Cool atmosphere, but no Truly Outstanding Classics. If you want Truly Outstanding Classics, knock at Noel G's or Bowie's doors. In fairness, however: very few people write Truly Outstanding Classics. A lot of good music is, well, good. So well done. Welcome back Liam.
  9. Soul Love live at Jools Holland:

  10. Perhaps not a radio single, but a really good song, I think.
