    I agree, although this might just be a provocation from Rolling Stone journalist. He's got no more reasons than us to assume that U2 are fearing competition - for all we know, they're recording a double album (unlikely). But, again, I agree: get the songs out!

    If I was anyone at this point I'd be worried about all the other releases. JT did it right by releasing in March and sold a shit load.
  3. A fall release always made sense with people always buying CD's as Christmas stocking filler. Nowadays though it doesn't matter with people more than happy to grab the mp3 from amazon or iTunes. Get the first single out, get it played to death, out with the album then tour within a month or 2 after that.

    What we all, and especially U2 need to understand is this: In this current economy and dumbed down music industry, there are not any cds flying out of the boxes for artists over 50. They just don't exist. No matter how strong the music is. "Vertigo" was a miracle with a great advertising tie in. If they simply just release their best music, I will be happy. If it sells 500,000 or 5 million. Chances are it will sell somewhere between that worldwide, but I just want it to be good.

  6. If it's true, yeah, it's sad (but let me stress once more than this is mere speculation from a journalist). Nobody wants to get old, and U2 certainly are. It's hard to repeat 1987 or 1991 when you're approaching 55... so yes, focus on the music, make it good, and let it out!

    Just take a look at the artists who make ''similair'' music like U2 and released a album in the last 2 year (Springsteen, Muse, Snow Patrol, Coldplay, The Killers and upcoming; Arctic Monkeys and Pearl Jam) The only band I heard on the radio from that list is Coldplay and I reaaaaaaally hope U2 don't want to go in that direction, if they do and make an album full of cheesy ''ohohohohoh'' songs I would be extremely dissapointed.

    They just need to see that times have changed, they aren't the most populair band in the world anymore but they still are relevant as hell. I bet they still will play sold out venues and their album will be sold more than enough. But not as much as albums like Gaga, Perry etc. Why? I really have no idea and I don't really care.

    Maybe they just need to make a choice, do we really want to be like populair artists and make crap music? or do we go the Springsteen/Pearl Jam way and just make music have fun and still get a shitload of money?
