    That's the summary of mostly all of Arcade Fire's works Disencouraging review... We'll see what I like and what not when I finally listen to it today morning. I don't think I have listened to a full album of theirs in something like 4 years so I have different ears than most. Let's see.

  5. Ok, so... First listen, review on the go. I haven't listened to the SNL stuff (only the minute where Bono appeared), and just listened twice or thrice to Reflektor, so... Fresh ears. Let's go.



    0:00:00 Reflektor - still not my cup of tea entirely, but it's grown on me a bit. Still don't like the falsettos of "just a reflector", almost ruin the song for me. Almost. Gotta love the French verses though.
    0:07:34 We Exist - Loved it at first sight, then it became a little bit too busy and weird for me, still a nice song.
    0:13:17 Flashbulb Eyes - continued with the previous song's weirdness. Not worth a whole track division I feel.
    0:16:00 Here Comes the Night Time - Superb from the start, goes nicely along the movie (my favorite album/movie connection until now, maybe paired with Reflektor). Some instrument/arrangements ain't neccesary but sill, serious contender to best song in the album.
    0:22:30 Normal Person - arena breaker!!... I can perfectly see this one live (unlike all the others haha). Probably the most "standard" AF song in the album, paired with... >
    0:26:53 You Already Know - likeable, suitable follow-up to Normal Person. Another two contenders to best songs.
    0:30:51 Joan of Arc - hmmmmm... I think they tried too hard here. It would have been great if it was 5 minutes long instead of 15, everything that followed the silence at 0:35:45 was unnecesary. They will shorten it at their shows (I HOPE!). Funny mistake at the lyric video ("I only wanna to love you"). The 10 minutes of reversed parts are definitely unnecesary, I will edit them out when I get the album. I'm writing this on the go, and I'm just PRAYING that it ends soon and the next song kicks in.
    0:46:22 Here Comes the Night Time II - Joan Of Arc's stupidity has ruined the experience for me so I can't tell if I liked this one much or not. I think so.
    0:49:07 Awful Sound (Oh Eurydice) - I think this will be played after Ready To Start, really similar sounds and topics. Show/set closer maybe, I love this one. Maybe my favorite off the album, not neccesarely the best, but my personal favorite.
    0:55:23 It's Never Over (Hey Orpheus) - Meh. Bland. I love the Orpheus/Eurydice reference though (personally one of my fav mythology stories), and the chorus is catchy as hell.
    1:02:02 Porno - Meh again. Nicer than some, worse than others. I think the album as a whole would be better without it.
    1:08:05 Afterlife - Like it lirically (essential in the Orpheus story), but it's not particullarly brilliant (aka a bit repetitive) when it comes to its musical output.
    1:14:02 Supersymmetry - Different, nice. Only Arcade Fire song (besides Wake Up, but for personal reasons) to ever put a tear on my eye, due to the story, the theme, the music and the part of the movie it's in. The final noisy minutes are unnecesary but, being the end of the album, I forgive and gladly accept them. Brilliant end for the album.


    Waiting for a movie-less listen, this is pretty/very good. They've tried a little harder than neccesary in some songs and the whole product is a bit too long and pompous at times, but that's inherent to Arcade Fire I think, so...


    8/10 on first listen.
  6. Still not sure what I would rate the album, but it was always going to be hard to follow up a masterpiece
  7. The band are playing some warm-up dates. Posters have been noticed around cities advertising the gigs, however it is under an alias, The Reflektors. So far:

    November 15 & 16: Glasgow Barrowlands
    November 27: Blackpool Empress Ballroom
  8. How would one obtain tickets. Glasgow is cheap.

  10. Available from Ticketmaster 9am next Friday. I'm going for the 15th as I'm seeing Queens of the Stone Age on the 16th.

    That is awesome. If I didn't have tickets for Arctic Monkeys on the 15th and a Spanish band on the 27th, I would think of it. The Reflektors
