You can only make so many iterations before you have to say enough is enough. You don't just take your album back into the studio for another god damn year, just because you got scared. It's ridiculous. The "endless creative process". Bullshit. Everything needs deadlines; I don't care if you're Bono and you swagger around like God day in, day out, you better fucking set some and meet them.

I don't mean to sound completely illogical either. Those statements above have cold, hard truth behind them. It's always better to just release and move on, rather than constantly applying patches to something you're never going to be satisfied with anyway. That's the thing people don't understand about Bono. He's king of megalomania but he's still partial to sitting in the corner, sucking his thumb and worrying that his art isn't good enough. He's always been the same and no amount of money, fame or time is going to change that. Ideally he needs someone to stand up to him and release it for him, but that won't happen either.

I could be wrong of course, and there could be another reason for the delay, but I doubt it. The other band members, the business behind them, the label. None of them would have sanctioned this. No, it's our lord and master himself. The dick.

You may be able to infer that I'm a little annoyed, but also, to a degree, sympathetic.

+1 the way they are going they will review it as 'overproduced' a year later.
  3. I'm pretty sure most of us will love the boys forever, but at the moment they sadly don't treat us the same way!
  4. This just doesn't make any sense. THEY HAD MOMENTUM! Ordinary Love , the Golden Globes (the award and the positive press), then the nice response to Invisible (the commercial, the song, the behind the scenes video), Fallon and the Oscars...the stars were aligning!

I'm not pleased with this at all and I don't understand it. The only way I'll forgive this announcement (not that I'm mad at them, just really disappointed) is if there's something wrong in the band (if someone was sick or something).

I really think they should put out something else this year though. Now is the time for the Best of 2000-2010 and throw at least four new songs on (the ones they performed on tour maybe?) I would be OK with this and I'd welcome another single and video.

Best of 2000-2010 in... 2014? Yeah, makes perfect sense
  7. Its all getting a little bit embarrassing now, for them i'm sure just as much as us.

One thing I never thought I would see was a U2 with such little confidence.

Is this the same band that at the start of the ZOO TV tour opened with 8 straight songs from Achtung Baby.

It's like watching Tiger Woods trying to recapture the form that made him head and shoulders the best player ever, as he misses yet another putt he would have nailed 10 years ago!

    It's painful.
  8. The thing I don't get though is this, "five years of recording" phrase. They technically were on tour from 2009-2011 with very little recording done in 2010 post-Bono-back-surgery. 2011 was spent on promoting and damage control for Spiderman and taking a break Sept-Dec. 2012 was a rest year for the most part. June 2012-Dec 2013 is the main time frame of them being in a studio I think.

That's about a year and a half (18 months if you add the scattered months) it's not 5 years but it still is too long. I'm not defending them just stating that 5 years to make the album is a really easy bash we can make when we know if we look deeper it's not.
  9. I don't see anything wrong with it...

  10. When did The Best of 1980-1990 get released? And The Best of 1990-2000?
  11. That is too different because The Best of 1990-2000 followed the Elevation tour (less than a year after that ended) and there were new songs with reason (Hands That Built was in a soundtrack). Four years after that decade ended and after this bad hype would only hurt them. Releasing a Best of 2000-2010 would probably be the worst thing they could do right now. It just screams, "look how little songs we made in 10 years!"
  12. They've decided to extend their Insecurity Tour into 2015! We should make tour shirts.
