But... everybody likes sleeping... don't they?

    I Always Knew:
Sleep comes like a drug in God's Country,

Does anyone which band this wrote?

A lot more exitement in that song than in the whole new Coldplay album.
  2. Top notch performance seeing it in the flesh. Not long enough. Audience were on form too. They've still not disappointed after witnessing them live three times.

They definitely need to lengthen their shows, 90 minutes or less is just not enough for a band that wants the Biggest Band in the World crown.

I agree! I have always wondered why they only perform for 90-100 minutes on their "official" concert tours. After the release of X&Y they had enough material to get it to the 120 minute mark but never have. Disappointing, especially when I have been to see Bruce Springsteen 3 times and the last pushed on the four (4) hour mark.
  5. They were only cut at Big Weekend because it was a festival. I'm sure once they hit the road for a potential world tour.

Yeah, it happens at festivals but also at their regular tour shows. MX was a world tour that even hit stadiums in Europe and still all their shows ended under the 100 minutes mark. That's just not acceptable. If you've managed to gather 50.000 of your fans spending their money just to see you, at least do your best to offer a long, properly enjoyable show. I remember enjoying and enjoying the excellent 2012-05-20 Madrid show and then, all of a sudden, some fireworks and boom, the show was over. 55.000 people in a complete anti-climax after just 93 minutes of joy. Most people there paid over 1€ for each minute of live music, or over 4€ for each song played if you put it that way.
  7. Yeah I've seen many acts that have been less than an hour and a half. Funnily enough it tends to happen when artists get "bigger" which is really odd to me. I was at a show recently and it ran about 85 minutes, and I heard a guy behind me say "funny, I saw him a few years ago when no one in the audience really knew who he was at this club and he played for two and a half hours. You know he's getting more popular when he doesn't have to do that anymore."

As a performer I can say performing for that long is tough, especially as a singer. That being said though I'm not doing it day after day with coaches and that, and if the geezers that are U2 can still pull like a two hour show these young lads definitely can.
  8. Good point. With CP it seemed to me that they're trying to keep a certain theme and style to their shows and that's what limits the shows. I felt they think some other songs wouldn't fit the playlist and the theme.
  9. Yeah I think for the Ghost Stories shows it makes sense, and I do remember the Mylo shows being the perfect length. I mean people get so amped about how Springsteen and Pearl Jam play for like 3 hours. Yeah it's cool but at the same time it's hard not to get restless and bored if the band is just playing song after song after song and not actually performing a well planned show.
  10. We're starting to beat a horse that died long ago (Springsteen/PJ no-concept shows vs themed shows like U2's), but it's 2 diferent topics. Coldplay have more than enough material to do a 2 hour set no prob, and still keep its theme, visuals, performance and all the tricks.

Let's take a standard MX show, and I will mark as bold songs they didn't play in that tour, but would have fit the show thematically, and made it long enough to be truly decent:

Mylo Xyloto - Hurts Like Heaven
    In My Place
    Major Minus
    Talk
    Lovers in Japan
    The Scientist
    Yellow
    Violet Hill
God Put a Smile Upon Your Face

    (B-stage)
    Princess of China
    Moving To Mars
    The Hardest Part (or) Amsterdam
    Up in Flames
    Warning Sign

A Hopeful Transmission - Don't Let It Break Your Heart
    Viva La Vida
    Charlie Brown
    Paradise

    (acoustic set)
    Us Against the World
    Shiver
    Up With The Birds
    Speed of Sound

    (encore)
    Clocks
    Fix You
    M.M.I.X. - Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall

That's all folks. From a good but shamefully short setlist to a truly awesome performance for their best tour.
