Well, if I am to be honest, the past two albums might not be great enough to merit a full on world tour.

I'm not too sure if that last statement came out right as PJ is still one of the biggest R&R bands in the world but for many (myself included) I don't get too excited when I listen to songs off Backspacer and Lightning Bolt on the bootlegs (or even at the shows). Sure, they have their moments (well, at least LB does - Pendulum is awesome) but for the most part the crowds seem to be much more into their earlier stuff - and from reading the 10c forums, even the longtime, die hards would rather hear stuff from Binaural and Riot Act over songs like Supersonic and Let The Records Play.

I get what you are saying here Matt , but you listed the 2 weakest songs off Backspacer and LB . I personally would rather hear 90% off LB then Riot Act .

With bands like PJ DMB Radiohead , the more they release newer material , the more the sets will be watered down with the weaker , "not as good as the old stuff" material .

DMB barely played material off their last LP , Away From The World (2012) . Old geezer fans like me loved it . They even brought back Steve Lillywhite to produce . But for some odd reason , they ignore it ,and are still forcing some of their weaker tunes from Big Whiskey (2009) and Stand Up (2005) in the sets .

PJ tend to do this as well , by still playing Got Some over and over , and sprinkling in Green Disease and or Save You in sets . IMO ,those tunes should not be played anymore , when classics like Garden and or Leash can be busted out instead .
  2. You can't please all of the people all of the time y'know
  3. I simply feel that PJ don't need to write heavy songs like Got Some and MYM anymore. I'm not saying that guys in their 40's and/or 50's can't rock out anymore (I'm in my 40's and still love to hear Spin The Black and Save You ) but I think they've touched on some really interesting (and less heavy) sounds over the past decade and a half but have never allowed it to reach its full potential. Songs like Of The Girl, Parting Ways, I Am Mine, Severed Hand (a relatively heavier one!), and Pendulum seem to have something very fresh about them but in other instances they seem to regress to generic rockers that I feel they (or maybe it's just me) have outgrown.
  4. A lot of "buts" in my last post!

  5. Nice to see you Ed..... I cant comment on LB vs SOI because my feelings go back and forth on that question, but what I will say is my 2 favorite bands have released their best material in years and thats awesome. And at the the end of the day PJ lives on stage. Thats the main draw for me since 2003. Thats around the time I realized There will never be another Vs. or Vitalogy. Dont get me wrong, U2 is amazing live, but the lack of variety and rehearsed speeches before certain songs brings down the excitement after the first couple of shows of the tour. At the end of the day, would I consider driving to Detroit to see u2? No.

    Ed..IMO the standouts are:
    Milan
    Berlin
    Leeds
  6. Trieste topped Milan and Berlin.

  8. I agree with you on that one, Nick. I've seen both bands four times. I've seen U2 only in Toronto but have no repeat cities for PJ. Admittedly all of this may be due to circumstance but it's still true. In fact, PJ is the first band I've ever travelled for more than one hour to see!

Exactly! And in reality you were very close to going to Detroit! So as much as I love U2 , the excitement around them will never be as high as it is with PJ for me personally.

  10. And it's not over yet....yet....yet....yet........yet........

  11. The obvious thing that would help for me with U2 is to not follow the setlists beforehand and go into a show "cold." However, this is virtually impossible for me to do.
