U2 - The Crystal Ballroom

  1. After the first listen of the album, this was the song I couldn't wait to hear again. I wouldn't say that now, but as someone who just respects not only U2, but where they have come from, I really respect just how important 'she' (Iris) was to the band. Larry lost his mum too, and he and Bono formed a lifelong bond because of that.

    As someone said earlier, Iris also fits into the theme of the album.

    For what its worth, The Crystal Ballroom blew my mind after the first few listens, but Lucifers Hands is better (IMO)
  2. Funnily enough, Lucifer's Hands does nothing for me. It's actually the only song which I skip sometimes while listening to the whole album in the car (sometimes Song For Someone too). And, in order not to go offtopic, The Crystal Ballroom is the song which I repeat the most when it ends (followed by Cedarwood Road)

    Same here, Lucifer's Hands is the only song that I skip almost every time.

  5. The Crystal Ballroom is up there with the great songs from Pop, as are a few others from SOI, but overall I would definitely rank Pop higher than SOI. Maybe this will be the tour where the band finally remembers what a great album it is ("unfinished" or not)? In fact, staying on topic, TCB would sound fantastic live combined with something like Discotheque. Or Do You Feel Loved, they should try that one again...
  6. Iris is a great song, I lost my mother a few years ago and reading the lyrics of Iris I understand the meaning of the song.

    The Crystal Ballroom is another great song, which I hope U2 would play it live. But I have my doubts, the song is quit complex to play live. It is a shame that The Crystall Ballroom is not on SOI.
  7. Do you all want to know why The Crystal Ballroom is not on the main album? It's because when U2 said they were experimenting with a dance album, we all threw a fit and scared them away from it.

    LOLOLOLOL if that was the case there'd be a few other songs that never would have been part of any album.

    Geez. If they want a song they'll include it. It works better as a bonus track anyway.

    Actually, U2 was talking about doing a dance album while they were on the 360 Tour and people starting asking about the Crazy Tonight and Magnificent remixes, so it's very possible that Crystal Ballroom was in the works for quite some time.

  12. I'm curious...when you rank U2's albums, do you include bonus tracks? For instance, my versions of ATYCLB and HTDAAB don't include The Ground Beneath Her Feet or Fast Cars, respectively, but if I mentally included those that actually affects how I would rank those albums overall.

    Does anyone do this similarly with The Crystal Ballroom (and/or Lucifer's Hands) with SoI? Or do you think of the album as the 11 tracks that were released on Sep. 9 as defining the album?
