1. I don't agree. Discothèque is good although not better than the original, agree there. I love the New Mix of Gone since it's more similar to the live version, although I would have kept the original 1996 vocals by Bono and not re-record them. And I would directly rate Staring At The Sun [New Mix] as BETTER than the original album version. There it goes
  2. I'd love a re-imagined version of pop, but my heart will always belong to the original album whenever the question "what album would you take with you on a deserted island" pops up, I pick pop.
  3. I wanted to reply.... But Sergio has the perfect answer
  4. Great minds think alike, or so they say

PS. I'm listening to the new mixes and remixes from the 90-00 Best Of right now... I can't stand the Big Yan mix of If God Will Send His Angels. It would be really good without the annoying dadabudabudatraboo synth all over the place But seriously, what a song. And caaaartoon network turn intooo the neeeewwwwwwwwwssss. Shivers.
  5. It's the best song on the album. They should play it again. Fairly relevant in this day and age.

So they definitely are new lyrics? I do really love the new mix of Gone!

I like the end of the new mix of Staring At The Sun.
  7. I find that clapping emoji really disturbing/confusing.

I like the new mix of SATS, but I still prefer the original.
    Both Gones are great.
The single versions of both Please and IGWSHA I find them way better than the originals (although I still like them).

About them finishing the album... they can't even finish Every Breaking Wave and you want them to finish Pop. U2 recorded versions are just snapshots of their songs, some snapshots are better than others, imho Pop snapshot feels like they weren't 100% ready for the pic, but they could work on it for another month and come up with another 3 mixes of every song and still wouldn't feel like they already finished it. Then after one year they'd drop the whole project and start Songs of Ascent.
  8. No, I said new vocals... Not lyrics. There are a few words here and there that are changed from the original Pop lyrics, but nothing major. I could make a list if you wish but it's not worth it I think, it's just a few verse endings.

    @Dylan, yeah, definitely agree.
  9. I don't think the entire album needs to be reworked, but I stand behind my sentiments that the album feels incomplete. As people have mentioned, their efforts to patch the album up with "New Mixes" has led to mixed results, no pun intended.

On the topic of "re-recordings" in general, I'm honestly not sure how I feel about it. On the one hand, it would be interesting to hear the old albums performed by the modern U2, but in contrast each album is a snapshot of the band at a particular moment in time, so it would be impossible to replicate that moment.

Sorry I meant to say vocals. I know the song well enough to know if the lyrics are different! haha
  11. haha one never knows. Sorry for understimating you my dear!

And yeah, all the new mixes have new vocals, some of them are noticeable post-1998 like some verses from Gone and the SATS bridge. Don't know (can't tell) if Edge's and Bono's backing vocals were re-recorded too, or if they are 1996 originals, but the main vocal tracks were re-recorded for sure.

I think that's pretty cool! But also a little sad that they felt the need to do that for the Best Of you know?
