For most concerts, people go into GA expecting to wait a really really long time so they can snag the best spot on the floor and stay there to get the best experience. People who show up late essentially get blocked out. I did GA in 360 and this is pretty much how it was. Granted, there were a lot of great spots on the field, but after you find your spot and get settled, your chances of moving around are pretty much none.

In contrast, I did GA for LA 3 and had a totally different experience. I showed up at around 3:30, which is pretty late by GA standards. When I got in, I staked out by the "e" stage since that's where Bono comes in. When the concert started, I was close enough to give him a handshake for two seconds, then the band started playing on the "I" stage. There was quite a lot of space and it didn't seem like people were bunched up, so I figured, why not just head over to that side for a better view? To my surprise, I was actually able to get quite close to the "I" stage for the first 4 songs. When they started to involve the center screen, I moved further away from the stage to get a more complete view of things. I pretty much spent the evening roaming from place to place depending on what I wanted to see.

So why is this surprising? In most concerts, GA consists of people packed like sardines. Even if you want to move back, it still takes you a while to do it. I was able to get close enough to snag some of the books Bono tears up and tosses and far enough to take decent pictures of the screen visuals within the same song. Moving between the "I" and "e" stages is just as easy to do. Since this was my only show doing GA, I can't be certain if this is because the particular venue or if GA didn't sell out that day, but it really feels like GA can provide you with a complete, well-rounded experience if you decide to roam around.
Thanks for this info. It seems to be a common thing. My friend had a similar experience in Vancouver. I found it amusing that all his pictures were from different locations !!
  2. my last experience with ga was philly for 360.i got there after 3pm landed on adam side with one person in front of me.she slept overnight.you never know.
  3. I turned up at the Moncton pit at 18.30, got a stamp & went for some food then strolled into my prefered 360 spot at the back of the pit :-)
  4. Can you tell more about the pages, what do they say?
  5. i heard c.s. lewis
  6. I got the second half of "Rites of Passage" by William Golding. From afar it looked like he was tearing up bibles, which would make sense given the context of the song. I'm curious if other fans have gotten pages and if they are different books. Might be some sort of connection there.

My pictures are also all over the place. There was a group of fans that were standing in the back/center of the venue and they probably saw me cross at least 10 times or so.
  8. For now I do like the SOE tour very very much.

I am not spending time of bashing setlists or reading the complaints.
That is wasting time and energy.
(of course I also want to hear: Acrobat, Redhill Minningtown, Like a song, Drowning Man, Indian Summer Sky, Exit, One Tree Hill, Kite, Wake up dead man, Do you feel loved, Electrical Storm, Crystal Ballroom, Twilight, Tomorrow and all SOI).

But following U2 since 1983, I know this is wishfull thinking. I did not believe the rumours that this tour has different setlists every night.

Especially knowing the history before the start of this tour and US audience, most of them want to hear the hits.

And imagine you are at a U2 show with 20.000 people, and only 10% (mainly U2start members ), know the songs, 18.000 are just standing or sitting with their arms crossed and are thinking, "where are the hits".

I am impressed by the stage setup and screens, Bono's voice sounds good, he is not 25-30 anymore and also at this age his voice had now and then some troubles.

The new songs are played better every show.
Cedarwoodroad is my personal highlight. The Miracle is a good opening song, but at the first shows it should be played a bit faster. Great to hear The Electric Co and Bad again. Great combinations of SBS-Raised by Wolves, Iris-Cedarwoodroad.
Like the versions of SBS, One, Bullet and Miracle.

Missing the orchestra for EBW. ISHWLF is not a good closer.

"40" is still the best closer of all time.

    I have listened to recordings of Vancouver 1& 2, San Jose 2, Phoenix 1 & 2.
Best audio sofar have San Jose 2 and Phoenix 2.

Can't wait for Amsterdam 09-09 and Cologne 17-10!!!
  9. Raised By Wolves is getting better live, Cedarwood Road is the best out of the new songs. EBW could do with an orchestra or Adam and Larry coming in, but EBW seguing into Bullet is brilliant

    Good.

Wishing that U2 played Springsteen or PJam's shows is like wishing that football had timeouts American football style. Like wishing that Night Shamalan made comedies or that Michael Bay made movies full of suspense and drama.

But even Springsteen fans are complaining about setlists and the way songs are played nowadays.
  12. Do you think they should allow the fan that does the Meerkat thing to request a song??
