  1. I thought Montreal 1 was great - but tonight was the best U2 show I've ever been to. I thought the roof was going to fly off the Bell Centre . The crowd was so into it - Bono said the loudest he's ever heard, the band was relaxed and having fun and the setlist...

    And it topped off an incredible run of good luck today - got a GA ticket in a 2 pm day of show ticket drop (!), was right at the second stage where all the fun happened and shook hands with Larry and Bono before the show to boot.

    Great way to end my 4 show tour.

  7. Should be at every show not just some. Play the hell out of the new stuff; don't end up like 360 after the rescheduled dates, most of the tracks off No Line On the Horizon vanished when it hit North America again. Folks in Denver, SLC and elsewhere never got to hear the 2009 songs because they were gone.

    Or as Echo and the Bunnymen put it: "Gone, gone, gone."

    At this point, it's pretty clear that the band is generally very confident in their new material since it's the most they've ever introduced in a tour for quite some time. Even though they've scrapped the idea of completely different sets every night, it's pretty clear that they did significant practice given the sheer amount of different songs to have been played. Granted, some have only been played a few times and most of these songs appear in rotation. However, I think it is fair to say that this tour has the potential to bring in the greatest variety of songs we've seen. Obviously it's still too early to tell, but I think all the signs are pretty good.


    Plus, I find it very hard to believe that U2 will ever settle for simply showing up, playing a bunch of random songs, and calling it a night. This is pretty much what everyone is asking for regarding the drastically changing nights. If 5/24 potentially rotating songs isn't enough, you might as well ask U2 to be like everyone else and play a mixed bag of songs that may or may not fit well with each other. I guess I'd be fine with it, but it would certainly be a huge step towards mediocrity.

  10. Random songs would not be a huge step toward mediocrity. That shows initiative and guts...or balls. Mediocrity is a predictable setlist that hardly changes over 4 to 8 nights in the same city.

    'Kite' at Elevation San Jose I was ballsy. They were going to drop that song if the San Jose II crowd did not feel it.

    POPmart opening night at Sam Boyd Stadium was really bad by U2 standards but at least they attempted to try out most of the new album in one go. That was ballsy.
  11. Another interesting point is that at the end of the day, both the 360 and Vertigo tours had pretty much the same number of different songs played (60 for Vertigo and 61 for 360). Both also have roughly the same number of covers as well. Historically, the band has been known to play at or around 50 different songs (covers included) during every tour since ZOO TV, so I suspect that over the course of several legs we'll be getting a lot more different songs. Whether or not these end up being new songs is yet to be seen, but if SOE becomes a reality, we may see this happening.
  12. Nope. most of Songs of Innocence will leave by 2016 to make way for more Achtung Baby songs, but not including a little known song called 'Acrobat'.

    I'm not kidding when I say tribute bands like Achtung Babies are doing more justice to the new songs than the originals are at this point.

    All the new songs would nicely bring U2 to that rumoured 3 hour show so talked about in the days leading up to opening night in Vancouver.
