Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Set it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons for at least 6 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
When the Apple logo appears, release the Menu and Select buttons and immediately press and hold the Select and the Play/Pause buttons until the Disk Mode screen appears.

If not contact Apple and get them to replace it. Should be replaced under ELF (early life failure).
The apple logo came up as normal but instead of bringing me to the main menu the logo remains then the hard-drive makes a 'tick' sound then dies then reboots, shows the logo then 'tick' then dead over and over and over. Feck
Just off the phone to apple. I have to send the fucking thing to them for repair. Arrrghhh just fucking work

Fight that until they give you one. Don't let them stuff you around.

they guy on the phone was pretty sound. Didn't run me through the whole troubleshooting thing and didnt ask dumb questions like 'did you purchase your music from itunes?' No I didn't but is that relevant to a hard-drive failure?

Originally posted by germcevoywell my empty box will be here in a few days. Heres hoping that it won't take long. The thing i'm most pissed about though is that I had about 10 DVD's saved on the hard-disc that I didn't get a chance to burn. All gone. Dissapeared without a trace
